What are you trying to do? Convert something to belt drive or convert a 305 to chain drive?

My way of looking at it is that they use them on Buells. This being a bike with big power and massive torque, I suspect belts are more than strong enough for the majority of motorcycles.

They do squeak in an annoying fashion though.

About this wide, which doesn't look very wide at all. Maybe an inch at most.

Hi

For life expectancy, think on the GPZ305 they were generally held to last ~15000, about same as a chain (with a similar replacement cost to a chain and sprocket kit, but more time to fit). But they also tended to suddenly fail (teeth coming off the belt).

Suspect it is torque that would kill them rather than power, so quite likely you are correct that a sports 600 could use a smaller belt. However I am surprised a belt that narrow (compared to a cam belt) can put up with that kind of torque in such a poor environment.

All the best

Keith

I think that can be put down to the wonders of the modern petrochemical polymer industry. The woven aramid fibre in particular. They are 'bulletproof'.

Hi

Wasnt' going to shoot at the belt, or ride it on a tour of interesting war zones Wink . I would be a touch more concerned about the teeth staying on the belt.

All the best

Keith

up to now ive done 6500 mile on my GPZ 305 belt
with no problems apart from the odd squeek when its wet but thats normal with a belt drive

biggest problem for belts .........is if you get a stone stuck it will rip through the belt

good point is you dont have to maintain it like a chain
