 |
|
Just got back from a bike dealers.
Was seriously considering chopping in the gix for a 2003 999 if I would have I would have only had to put up 3000.
It was a red one with loads of carbon fibre tarty bits.
But my first question was how much would the servicing be.
And the dealer said:
Minor is $400 Major is $700
I heard people said they were expensive but not that expensive. ____________________ ◙◙► K6 GSXR 600 ◄◙◙◙◙► K5 GSXR 1000 ◄◙◙◙◙► K5 GSXR 600 ◄◙◙◙◙► 96 RF600r ◄◙◙

if you really want a ducati wait and get a 1098 - servicing costs are less and half as often as the 999
other than that - get a manual and service your bike yourself ____________________ R6 has been sold - 2004 Honda VFR VTEC now sold too - no bike at the moment |

Anyone read this months Bike mag? Mark Brewin from BSD had a look at the UK demo bike and noticed that they have used plastic pulleys instead of the usual metal. The one he looked at had frozen, stick a few more miles on it and then ask Mr Ducati for a new engine. |
1. Plastic doesn't corrode
2. There's a reason for doing this which i'm sure the engineers talked about.
All vehicle manufacturers work to roughly the same tolerances (97%-99%) and the amount of testing that goes on is unbelievable. (Not to mention all the EU directives they have to comply with).
If you notice, all this bollocks they put in bike mags/papers is always aimed at SMALLER manufacturers!! (They'll never upset Toyota, Honda, etc.)
The truth is, for every unsatisfied customer there's always another 90 who have had no serious problems!
Do you really think the guys at ducati/anywhere else think: I know, let's make it so that 30% of our bikes might break in half in 3 weeks of use!
The papers what they want. The truth is that if you buy a Ducati, Honda, whatever, and you look after it and don't rev the nuts off as soon as you get on it, it should last (as long as you arent part of that 2-3%). ____________________ Kawasaki ER6n -> Honda CBR600RR -> Honda VTR 1000 -> Moto Guzzi Norge 1200

Eh, Eh, calm down, clam down. The bloke at BSD knows what he's talking about and actually said he's a Ducati nut and that he can't believe they have done it. He's not a magazine journo he's one of the top tuners in the country. It's a fact, the only 1098 demo bike in the UK had a frozen pulley that will lead to engine damage long before the next service interval. Bothers me not, I'm telling it as it's stated.
Oh and I wouldn't really expect an internal engine component to corrode anyway. |
