Just bought a bike off ebay it came with one of those carbon look tank protectors, but it's well knackered and peeling off in places anyway.

What's the best way to remove it without taking all the paint off the tank??

My best guess would be petrol and a credit card to scrape it, but thought I'd ask here first

Thanks

BH

Funnily enough I have an old tank protector that I need to remove. I was planning to try white spirit because it seems to be very effective against most adhesives I’ve come across and there’s marginally less chance of setting fire to myself! Smile

Incidentally a lot of tank protectors boast adhesive that is petrol resistant, for obvious reasons….

o yeah, dur. You can get the manufacturers warning stickers off the tank with petrol and a credit card so i figured the same principle may apply..

Yup. Heats up the adhesive so it's all soft and gooey again - should get the protector off in a oner and anything left will be easier to rub off with a finger.

I'll add my experiences with the hairdryer method. As you peel it off, peel it off slowly, so that you don't rip bits off leaving bits of adhesive on the tank, I made this mistake with my warning stickers, so just a heads up. Thumbs Up

i used a heat gun which same as hairdryer just faster to loosen the glue..

use either one and take your time and it all rubs off..

i did alot of sticker removal on a car once. used a tool called a ' toffee wheel ' cost me £5 pound from sealy tools.

just stick it in a drill and rub it on the sticker and it pulls it all off with out leaving any marks on the tank.
here is an ebay equivalent....

if anybody lives near me and wants to borrow it please feel free, infact i have alot of tools and body repair stuff as it is what i do lol
