 |
|
Just been browsing the net for wheelie schools & found this little device, bit diffrent from what i posted some time ago as it says it actually helps you wheelie.
In practical terms this means you can just whack the throttle open and the device will not just control the wheelie but allow the wheel to stay up until you run out of revs! Here's a video in which you can hear the WheelySafe controlling full-throttle wheelies: (Has a video of this)
Pretty cool stuff if starting out, off course it would be better to learn without it but practicing on you're nice & shiny sportsbike holds most people back & i wouldn't mind giving this a try.
I'm guessing when it's released it won't be cheap either.

Something about a Gyro sensor,
The invention comprises a rate gyro sensor (which senses the rate of change of rotation) to calculate, in real time, the current attitude of the motorcycle. Using the rate gyro, only relative angles can be sensed, so an accelerometer is also used to provide a known reference attitude.
Determining whether the motorcycle has reached a critical angle is a simple matter of comparing the calculated angle with a preset value. However, since the comparison and setting of the preset value are microprocessor controlled, the preset value may be easily adjusted at any time by any simple means - a push button, for instance, or rotation of a control knob.
If the calculated angle approaches the preset angle, the motorcycle rotation is retarded by effectively switching off the ignition. This not only removes the acceleration which lifts the front wheel but also applies a braking effect. For simplicity of installation, the switching of the ignition is achieved by connecting the invention to the ignition kill switch, side stand cutout, or similar. |

Oops, ta; didn't look closely enough obviously.
I've wondered about such things in the past and a gyro is the obvious solution, but don't have the knowledge to bodge soemthing like that myself (though, thinking about it, wonder if you could one from an aeroplane ). |

Not sure if its been mentioned but how do they actually work? are they a mecury switch connected to the coils to stop it sparking? or does it act like a restrictor, just stopping it at a certain RPM?
id like to try one, but the issue still stands on landing it correctly, generally if you can land them correctly your not too bad at them in the first place.
the tilt switch could well be more risky, as it may give you a certain "invincibility" or so it may seem. ____________________ Current : 06 Zx10r, 07 Wr450f SM, 74 850 norton commando, 63 bsa b40, 1962 Triton 650, 67 Triumph Tr6r, 1955 Triton 750, 1978 TY250E. |

Jamie stop talking shit about shit you know nothing about, especially if its advice giving, talking about stuff you know nothing about can lead to people getting hurt or wasting money etc etc... not just this thread but other threads.
Wheelie bars, aka 12 bars DO NOT STOP YOU FLIPPING they are an advanced "tool" to park your bike at 12 and to scrape in a wheely and do various other tricks, hit a 12 bar without being experienced enough and it'll spit you off faster than you can say "oops sorry mate i thought it was an anti flip device" |
Sparks, leave the kid alone.
I've seen a couple of wheelie schools with wheelie bars that are about two metres long and angled to touch down just after the balance point. That would be a wheelie bar. Jamie did not say "12 o'clock bar" because that is something else.
So leave the kid alone and stop jumping on everything he says.
In relation to the thread, I've seen numerous anti flip devices. I've seen the aforementioned trellis wheelie bar:
https://www.thewheelieschool.co.uk/images/bike1.jpg
Tell me that is a 12 o'clock bar sparks!, because it isn't... its a wheelie bar.
I've seen the anti flip device with the huge long metal rod sticking out which cuts the ignition:
https://www.markhodson.com/WHEELIE/0604.jpg
And this Gyro thingy. Seeing as there are other more reliable non gyro ways of doing it, I can't see it ever taking off.
And for me, I'd not have any of them on my bike, because I don't think the chance of flipping a wheelie is that great anyway. Why get a machine to teach you when people seem to have been learning well enough for years without? ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
