Since buying my bike nearly two years ago and covering about 10k miles I haven't had the tyres changed at all!

So i've uploaded a few pictures so you can guys can tell me if they need changing yet.

The front tyre

The back tyre

Also does it matter that the front and back are not the same?

Just me or are those pics HUGE! Shocked

2nd pic of your front looks like your down to the wear indicator, cant really tell about your rear but it doesn't look like there is much tread left on that either...

Hey,

10000 is really good for a tyre. The longest i've had a tyre last is a year, or 3000 miles for me.

Whats the BT56F like? I was going to replace my GPZ400R tyres with BT45's.

Cheers,
Shaun

Those chicken strips are bigger than mine Wink. The back tyre looks like it needs changing, but its pretty simple really when it gets down to the wear indicator it needs changing. 10000 miles from a tyre pretty dam good, i take it you do alot of commuting.

Oops forgot about resizing the pictures :p

It's really hard trying to use the edges of the tyre on the motorway :p

Once the tyres became square it was then far too frightening trying to crank the bike over, it would tip in really slowly then feel like it fell off a cliff edge and would just drop.

The tyres have been nice to commute with, decent in all weathers. Although they would slip if I started taking the piss in the wet.

What I need is a tyre thats hard as nails in the centre and nice and soft on the edges..

Why are you asking if they are ok? Measure the tread depth if its at the legal minimum or below they are not all right.

Have you found the twistgrip that makes it go faster? 10K from tyres is pushbike territory. Laughing

Bridgstone Bt020's are alright. Dual compound, ive got em on my CBR, and my mates got the same on his SV. they seem to be lasting quite a while for him.

Suprisingly low wear on the tyres from having the throttle pinned in top gear :p

Looks like you could possibly eek a bit more out of them, but I'd replace both if I was you - it will feel like a new bike! Wink

Check out some 2CT tyres, they have a hard compound in the middle and soft sticky stuff on the edges. They are expensive though.

Christ, learn to use the resize function in photoshop (or it's cheap and tacky equivalent) for god's sake.

There's no need for pictures to be that size, ever!!!

On topic: They look about fooked, I'd get some new ones if I were you.

10000 from a rear..
U'm getting 7000 from a rear bt 45 and 13000 from a front, though my current rear is very square from winter,

how are the bt56's different? do they make them for the gpz?
I like the bt45 on the gpz, they rarely if ever slip and it's predictable and always a warning slip before you know it's going to properly let go...

Simple

I've resized the images due to popular demand (and the fact it was raping my bandwidth allowance :p)

I know legally I could squeeze quite a bit more out of my tyres seeing as mundane motorway miles don't seem to wear the tyres much.

What i'm interested in is how do people avoid their rear tyres squaring off? Unless ofcourse your bike is a track weapon/weekend play thing. Even when I go out for a blast for an hour I have to travel 15 minutes to get to some good roads, which means atleast half the time i'd be upright squaring the tyre down.

Add on the fact that I commute 60 miles a day, 55 miles of which is motorway, the other 5 is usually filtering through near stationary traffic.

I can afford to change my tyres right now just for the niceness of having some new tyres that wont scare me when banking in, however I feel that since its only going to happen again right away I should squeeze every last ounce out of the tyre.

I also don't know how much of a hardcore commuting tyre I can get without making my bike worthless in the twisties!

Thanks for your responses, karma is being handed out.

Right,
The best tyres to suit your riding will be the 'AVON ST45/46' combo from 'TST' in Warrington.

Or Michelin Pilot HPX, I have the HPX on the BUSA and they have done 3000 miles so far and they have about the same left.
The Bridgestone are olllllllllllllllld technology now and expensive for what you get in return.
The AVON tyres inthe dry will not let go without you being a right pudding with the throttle mid corner, in the wet they are good but in the damp on my BIRD they were a tad twitchy, maybe on a middle weight bike they will be fine.
I got 7k from my AVON rear on a Blackbird, mainly 2 up and NOT slow.

Agree with Johnny the ST is 7mm tread-depth and very long-lasting.

That rear tyre is a goner, regardless of tread-depth. You will be finding that it squirms badly over white-lines and overbanding if you change lanes on the motorway. Fit some new rubber you won't be disappointed. I fitted new BT020's last week on my bike and the difference from the worn-out set was, as usual, astounding. The front though nicely rounded and evenly-worn also needs changing soon so might as well buy a set.

Even more impressive than your tyre wear is the condition of your brake-disks Very Happy

Looks to me like the tyres are spent.... i had some that were touch and go and then the rear delaminated on a long ride!!! was a proper pain in the ring..... Evil or Very Mad

Also new tyres make the bike much more manageable, makes it much easier to lean and the like....
