Say for instance there was a subscription you could pay to BCF, say £10 a year, would you pay it?

I can think of another forum, www.visordown.com , that does have a subscription that allows a bigger PM box and the ability to make polls if you subscribe.

With BCF becoming more popular and the more frequent appearance of "The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later." would you pay for BCF? Perhaps if subscribers had premier access so they didn't see those server messages so often?

With BCF becoming more and more popular is it right that the members contribute to its up keep providing there were some member benefits? Many other sites have a donation option.

I would pay without a doubt - £10 a year would be an absolute bargain considering the amount of time I waste spend on here.

This is purely a hypothetical question - it's Korn's site and he does with it what he sees fit.

I'm not saying reduce the amount people who don't pay see - I'm just saying that maybe some of the people who spend a lot of time here could contribute to it's running costs, not so they have any say, just so they have a better BCF browsing experience.

I don't need a bigger PM box, I have email. Polls are a minor "nice to have". Hardly ever see the "server too busy" message (don't think I've had it this year). I don't think my "BCF browsing experience" could be improved. Or rather, "don't fix what ain't broken".

If you want to bung a few quid Korn's way, I'm sure he'll post an email addy you can Paypal some cash to.

I've had the server busy message lots of times as I use the "view new posts" button rather than trawling the forum. So often in those cases it is 'broken'.

The polls and PM box were just examples from Visordown.

Well I might be tempted to pay for some bonus features, but only if they really seemed worth it, the server lagging at times can be annoying, but its nothing major there are lots of other websites to look at while you wait.

If you could pay for extras with no effect to those that don't pay, then I don't see a problem.

If you mean that some of the 'standard' features were removed for none paying members, then yes.

However, if this now comes to be Joe, you're paying my first year for putting the idea in Korn's head....

I'd pay it no worries, but the fact is Korn could well end up losing money from less traffic coming through the site as a result, and less people signing up.

From a personal point of view I wouldn't pay for access to any website so I wouldn't pay any subscription fees to carry on using BCF. I thought site ads covered the running costs?

yea, i would be happy to pay. £10 a year is a bargin, lots of 3+ year members here that post a lot.

I hope that korn makes a profit from this site, i really dont know the way it works RE money/advertising but if push came to shove, i think it would be fair enough Thumbs Up

No I wouldn't pay for extra features so I could be "member" and in turn be above other users.
My inbox is 2% full ( sad-o Laughing ) so I don't need more room added.

If Korn posted that the site was going to fold because it was losing cash then i'd donate something.

i wouldnt pay a sub to be a member either.

i think the site has a lot of valuable content but the majority of it doesnt warrant a fee to access in my opinion. in fact a lot of it could be done without, again in my opinion.

There's loads of other forums that are free, a 'subscription only' site would have a hard job competing with them.

I wouldn't pay for jokes and comments that are hardly original.

Cheers,

Byrnie.

No, because if people start paying for something, they feel they have the right to have a say in what happens in the forum.

For example a member getting banned. People who pay will say "why wasn't I asked about the banning?"

People will want what they think they deserve for their money.

If Korn has a cash flow problem, and is unable to keep up with payments for this forum, then i'd be happy to donate a couple of quid for running costs.

However, it is nice that we have a almost complete equilibrium on this site, with the karma system.

My thoughts. Smile

Was on a two stroke forum that started charging $20 ish for a year membership. Charges came in. Pople got togther and mirrored the forum design and started it up elsewhere off their own resources.

The pay site went down hill and the owner changed $20 / year to $20 / two years to $20 forever. Not that it's worth 2C anymore.

I'd love it if the forum had a mandatory £1 subscription payable only by credit card.

I'll let people guess as to why I think this Wink

plenty of websites ask for voluntary donations its understandable why, not everyone can be a wizard at running a website and making enough money to cover the costs, if korn ever posted up for monetary assistance then I would have no issues with chucking a bit his way, in terms of time spent reading here i probly spend more money on other things that actually use less of my time

i'm more sceptical of those who require a subscription, or certain exclusive benefits to paying members, couldnt see that people would get on with a forum where there were certain paying members, and then the non paying, barrel scraping, road sweeping plebs on the same board

i often throw a fiver peoples way here and there across the internet, for the odd bit of content someone has designed, or extra software for a game etc etc. strangely i dont pay directly for content, but will download free stuff, then give the couple of quid voluntary donation after

would never do it for massive corporation type websites, but for the little independant, one man band who puts up his own stuff, that he designs in his own time, then i'm more than happy, if it means that little community might be around a bit longer then its worth it

whether your money goes towards its intended/promised use is something that if you have any worries over then its best not to donate, cant abide people moaning about stuff like that after money has been donated "i sent this, you promised this rant rant" if its an issue then leave your money in your paypal account and lets have less hassle all round

I already pay a subscription for a racing website that I use and work for, so adding another one wouldn't be too much of a hassle, but, as it's a forum, I wouldn't be keen.

It's about chatting and having a laugh mostly, with occasional questions answered.

Although, if it was added to a news site, with race reports and other info etc, thn yes, it'd be well worth it. Similar to your site Silver I suppose, with the forum being a bonus.

I would more than happily donate if its needed but don't want to have a member thingy with extra features it makes people feel above others.

If BCF ever needs to raise money I am more than happy to help.

But lets just keep it how it is Karma

instead of a subscription it would be better to do a donations section. seems more people would donate whatever they can than being made to subscribe to a site
