2000 miles ago I got a nail through my rear tyre. Same thing happened again today. Sad . Gonna cost about £200+ for a new set of rubber (may as well do the front along with the rear) but there are no BT-020's in stock at the local garage. They do have Dunlop qualifiers though. anyone used them? Are they any good?

Don't know what your tire sizes are but BCT (https://www.bfmmotorcycles.co.uk/) are doing some good deals. Around £149.99 for a pair of BT020's and its £7.05 for delivery.

well, I need to get them sorted out this weekend and the local ride in centre will stick some dunlops on for £220 all in. I'd rather fork out the extra and get them changed all in one go as I need the bike to be on the road next week.

Pisses me off as the rear still has plenty left on it but the front is getting a bit on the worn side. The profile has squared off somewhat so maybe it's time to get all that new rubber on there...

I've just had tyre slime put into my tyre when a nail lodged itself into it and can't be taken out. Seems to have done the job though. EDIT -the nail went in at an angle, rather than remove the tyre from the rim as it was clearly seen that plugging it would be no use due to the angle of penetration (i.e. more than 20 degrees) and the small diameter of the puncture, it was better to seal it with slime.

I've got dunlop qualis on my bike front and rear and the offer a high degree of grip. The level of feedback is great and it lets you know exactly what is going on both at the front and at the rear. It grips well in the damp/wet too when i first picked up the bike. Remember the 97 ZX6R ain't particularly reknown for it's finesse and handling Laughing. I'm not too sure how long they'll last compared to the BT020, but worth a shot. Thumbs Up

I recommend the Qualis, even though they are a tad expensive, they were ride recommended but came with my bike when i bought it. Having said that, i've not had any basis for comparison as my old bike had BT092's which were grippy for my type of use and lasted long.

Get the qualis mate. I've been doing my research on slime and got mixed reviews. My mechanic said he's done loads of bikes on slime and says they've been fine until next replacement and at typical motorway speeds. I, however wouldn't want to chance it cos i do long distances, often with pillion. So next week, after a 400 mile tyre, i'm getting a new qualifier rear put it. Sod's law again - 2nd tyre i've punctured after only being 400 miles old !

Well, the damage seemed a bit of a mixed bag. I'm not sure the 1cm length of wire managed to punch right through but I noticed two slices in the rear as well as if I'd run over something sharp whilst braking (kinda like a light cut from a stanley knife) that were a few inches long.

So (not being a gambler) I just got them both swapped for a set of Qualis (getting a free torch to boot) and the difference is immediate. It's solved the "front end wobble" I was getting where the steering was oscilating when I took my hands off the bars at 30+ and has made the front feel a lot more sure-footed and flickable.

All in all, seeing as they were the same price as the 020's anyway, I'd recommend them. We'll see how they feel in 1000+ miles or so...

Except you couldn't get one big enough for a 180 section tyre.

When you have only two very small contact areas between you and a shit load of gravel rash, cheapskating is not the greatest idea Thumbs Down

As said somewhere else, if you get a puncture in a tubeless tyre it deflates relativley slowly. If you get a puncture in a tube, it deflates instantly. Not a good idea when scampering down the motorway in the fast lane at 70.
