There comes a time when you realise that your bike just isnt what you want anymore. Its like any relationship, they look good at the biginning, a few niggles appear and you compromise, then you are out one day and you get beaten in a flat out sprint by a CAR FFS!!!!!!!!
Never been so embarrassed in my biking life. It was an aston martin vantage of some kind, he had a head start off the roundabout and I caught him up then he just eased away. The bike only managed to get up to 111 before I found out that the second dissapointment of the day was coming from the front brake!!
So I think Ive finally got the motivation to get off my slow arse and do something about it. I feel like Ive let myself down but more importantly every other biker out there

Can I say I told you so now?
(Erm, ok, I don't recall if I did suggest not to get that SV, but on the balance of probabilities, I reckon I did ) |

G, you know fine well this is a 'told you so' situation. You have resisted the temptation to say it in the past for which you are a gentleman but in this case Im just going to accept it, although not fully.
When I bought it I knew it was very middle to bottom range in the legs department, but Ive been thinking of changing recently and thats the final nail in the coffin.
I like the way it sounds, I like the way it rides sometimes but its no good for anything other than knocking about on. The suspension is completely useless a lot of the time round here, back roads are a nightmare and the front is far too soft. When I bought the thing I needed something I could trust, something that wasnt going to bite my head off and something I knew noone had messed about with or crashed. My confidence was at such a low ebb that I needed a sedate machine to get me going. Recently Ive started to grow in confidence and Im getting back into how I used to be. I feel that by the end of summer Im going to be asking things the SV cant deliver. Such as outright accelleration and good handling on difficult back road surfaces.
Im also sick of the stigma attched to the SV. If someone at work asks me what i ride I say 'Oh Ive JUST got an SV650'. Theres nothing special about it. I think its a beautiful machine but thats not enough sometimes. Im sick of the whole budget aspect to it aswell.
Im looking to go back to inline fours, primarily in the super 600 sort of market. Ive considered the gixxer but Ive never been a fan of them, same with the R6. I'd have another Honda but Im not willing to part with the cash some people seem to want for them. Plus Ive already had a CBR600F so that leaves the RR. Im not a fan of Triumph and the 675 is out of my budget anyway. So that really only leaves the 636. I like the looks, the sound of the equipment and the insurance quote.
Bye Bye SV, Hello Kwak so it seems
Im not even going to think about the SV1000 as I just dont think the bigger engine outweighs the rest of the niggles. ____________________ RS125 > CBR6 > SV650S > ZX636R > GSX1300RZ Hayabusa > 06 RSVR Mille > SV1000S > Street Triple 765 RS |

What is this 'rule'???
I liked the hornet and it was good fun but Im worried I'll be stuck in a rut again far too soon. If Im honest as nice as the hornet was it had no special edge to it. It was just a well built fun bike. The suspension was a bit saggy at times but I still enjoyed it.
Would make a good second bike i'd say.
I want something more special, or in MY opinion more special. Ive liked the 636 for a while now. The extra 36cc, the slipper clutch the suspension made by the company I cant remember and Ive yet to own a kawasaki. Theres none in the car park at work, none around town and it dosnt have a 'learner/beginer' reputation like the SV.
Maybe Im being closed minded but I see the bandit and Sv as the beginners choice, the Hornet for either the more adventurous beginner or seasoned pro that knows what he's after and then the 600 sports as a sort of progression.
Im rambling so I'll stop now lol!! ____________________ RS125 > CBR6 > SV650S > ZX636R > GSX1300RZ Hayabusa > 06 RSVR Mille > SV1000S > Street Triple 765 RS |

Well in all the hype about global warming and all sorts, you can do yourself a favour.
GO GREEN
By that i meant get a Kawasaki. ZX6R's especially older ones J/G and A 636's offer all the bike you want in the world and nothing less. Very flexible, very cheap and very noisy.
Fact is, the bike can out accelerate a hornet, outbrake a hornet and has a higher top end than a hornet. Group rideout today proved it. My ZX6R set the fast pace (with pillion) which meant that my mates on an SP1 and CBR600F-sport (with pillion) were easily entertained. The hornet was left behind, as was the XJ600N.
Go on, get a Ninja - You'll want one and you'll never look back. ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1
