Have you ever changed sprockets? and What did it result?
<Me>
Honda C50 : F14 to F15 : Topspeed increased from 38 to 39.
Honda CB400SF : R44 to R39 : Topspeed decreased from 119 to 115, petrol consumption got worse from 12.5m/L to 12.
(I expected topspeed and better consumption but both got worse.
My worst custom ever...)
W650 : R37 to R38 : Topspeed same 119, consumption same 15m/L
(But I got nice acceleration and pick-up)

i changed both front and rear for the same setup, and added a scottoiler, and now get a handfull more mpg? might have something to do with an altered riding style, smoother and more mechanically sympathetic,...

but woud'nt reducing the amount of teeth on the front result in higher wear? Faster rotation ect ect?

I gotta admit since I changed my front, rear and chain the pull is a lot smoother after a gearchange. I think the chain was too loose before, resulting in a "slap".

Never really paid much attention to fuel economy, only ever gone down from the original gearing.

Tuned ZX9:
Original would probably top out 170-175.
Downgeared would top out 140-150 depending on what I had on it at the time.
Did about 90miles to a full tank.
Open the throttle hard in first and it'll smack you in the face.

CRM125
Original geared for 100mph, would do 80mph.
Went 1 down/10 up. Will now top out at around 60mph in top gear.
First gear still isn't great, but the closer gear ratios give you more room to play off road.

99 R6:
2 down/2 up. Similar top speed, but first and second much more lively now.

Reducing the teeth on the front does result in higher wear and a very marginal loss of power. However, increasing the teeth on the back is also going to mean a little more rotating mass.

changed the sv front and rear sprockets last night funnily enough but kept same size but have changed em on other bikes, i suppose it depends on the bike power if you go for smaller ones on the front your going to get more top end but if your bike hasnt got the power to get it there then dont bother and visverser if you change for bigger ones on front u'll get more acceleration but you'll be changing gear more quicker which would also result in losing time so ideally you wont to be getting the most speed out of each gear before you knock up which might be better to go for a longer gear and add some extra ponies to the engine.

-1 On the front sprocket of the GS125.

Top speed increased a bit because the bike could rev out easier in 5th. Would usually struggle unless there was a tail wind.

Looks like opposite (smaller one on the front : more acceleration, bigger one : more top end), but I agree it depends on the bike power.

Nice choice Thumbs Up Best case ! Both better acceleration and top end.

<summary>
+1 on Front : When you want to reduce 2 or 3 on Rear, nearly same change and sometimes don't need to change chain, low cost.
But this change often doesn't result in better economy or top end on both big and small bike, cause normal gear ratios are often considerd of economy.
-1 on Front: When you want to increace 2 or 3 on Rear, nearly same change and sometimes don't need to change chain, low cost, But it often result in higher wear and a very marginal loss of power.
But sometimes result in good on smaller bikes like 125.
+1or-1 on Rear: good for fine adjustment.
+2or +3 or +more on Rear: good for acceleration, no worry on higher wear and marginal loss of power, but a little more rotating mass, and sometimes shorter tank milage.
<small question>
I also found F15+R45 or F14+R42(R number of teeth is devided by F number) cases are not good on biased wear, but some bike adopt it as normal set, so I'm not sure.

01 Mille

Stock was 17/42, I got 172mph, may have gone alittle more.

Now have 16/44 and taken it to around 165, and did notice a gain at the bottom (even more so now with a PC) but also noticed I can only get 90 miles to a full tank.

yea the fuel tends to run out quicker if you change your gears so you have more accelration as your going to be at the redline in last gear more often did that to me on my nsr when i had standard cogs on so i put a set on for more top end speed
