Ok... i've been painting my race bike over the past couple of days.

I've only got the petrol tank NEARLY done so far.

What do you think?

https://img71.imageshack.us/img71/1872/pict0252tk7.jpg

I didn't use spray cans or a spray gun, or any spray equipment what so ever.....
Good ole paint brush, thinners, and Crown non-Drip Gloss!! Laughing Razz Thumbs Up

Any tips on how to get it to a mirror shine?

Sweet Colour!! Cool
I remember Smoto Bobs mini, That thing was brush painted.

For a bit of help on getting a shine and a nice finish, A mate of mine is "Roller painting", (Yup, Thats with a regular paint roller) his Mini Clubman.

Hes also using Rustoline paint and thinners! Cool

Laquer will do the exact opposite of what you claim. You want Urethane Clearcoat to stop scratches & chips. Laquer based shit is absolutely the WORST thing you can coat something with...

looks real sweet Drooling , OT but Suzuki TS125's have somewhat flexible panels, how could they be resprayed without craking the paint when dry?

Thanx. Cool

Home based gloss is flexable to a fair extent. it'll be absolutely fine for fairings. I've already tested and stressed it Razz it WILL crack eventually, but you need to bend it to something like a 45 degree angle! which by then the fairing has snapped anyway!

Get a paint brush and some gloss in your fave colour. and whack it on. 2 or 3 coats and the job's a goodun. Cool

"used to spray cars" being the operative phrase, you need to go back to tech school & stop using '70's technology. Laquer hasn't been used "generally" for at least 20 years...
& you should know just how hard laquer sets up.... which is why it has next to fuck all chip resistance. Wink
However, it is "absolutely great for a glossy finish".. for about the first 6 months....

looks really good for a brush job as for comments on laquer wouldnt bother laquering over house paint, not because its crap but if you have brush painted its not worth the exspense of spray laquering it or the health risk.and as for laquer not been used anymore Laughing every car and bike that is repaired is laquered if its metallic paint and even most solid colours are (like reds dont fade as bad ).also all bodyshops by law in the uk have since jan 2007 gone to water based paint which is a base coat (either metallic or solid colour water based ) followed by low voc (solvent) laquer solvent based solid colours now only for use at the mo on comercial vehicles.

Therefore... why spend hundreds on a flawless paint job when you can have a just as effective job (makes the bike look presentable and nice) for a tenner??

I've been quoted around the £300 mark to have 1 set of fairings and the tank sprayed. I just rubbed it all down and slapped a few coats of house gloss on...
It comes up really shiney with a bit of AutoGlym Bike Shine and Super Resin Polish (sponsored by AutoGlym I am Mr. Green) Awsome stuff!

so who want's me to paint their bike for £60 Quid? Laughing C'mon.. I'm serious!! Razz
