It's very hard to word this without making myself sound a lunatic but here goes...
Well the weather has been nice this weekend bar the wind that has kicked up every now and again.
As a sports bike rider(R1) myself and a mate of mine(R6) have been hooning around the countryside, I say that not to brag but because it leads to my next point.
I see so many riders on big thou's and sporty six's just pottering around demurely sometimes below the speed limit(on clear open "STRAIGHT" stretches of road), it just makes me think, what on earth is the point in owning a bike like that if your not going to utilize it(not to the max on the road obviously )
I dont understand it, obviously there are going to be new owners, riders and suchlike who justifiably take it easy.....But the rest of you??? Whats everyones opinion here?
Please discuss.
and no im not just going too fast!

Perhaps they like to hold onto their licences???? Although you are right in saying that making the choice of a sports 600 or 1000 then pottering round in top means you've possibly bought the wrong bike. ____________________ 18:54:48 Rob Fzs: jews don't give away stuff for free

Perhaps they *are* ragging it senseless in their mind? Or perhaps they've just had a back wheel slide and they're regaining their thoughts? Perhaps they're just pansies and can't ride a bike for toffees? ____________________ TheShaggyDA: I've got 3 or 4 pairs that predate my wife, so at least 11.5 years old. |

Is this one of the reasons you had your license taken away
I think a sports bike on the road never ragged is pointless, then again this summer i hope to "potter" around but this is mainly due to a extended break from biking (only till thusday though )
I think i would think differently about biking if i had a wife or kids or major responsibilities.
Oh how i love to be young  ____________________ 99 RS125 --> 02 SV650s --> 03 Speed Four --> 92 RXS100 --> 93 CB400sf --> 01 CB600f Hornet |

I know i enjoy a nice wee stroll through the country lanes, no need to feed any adrenaline cravings, no traffic, no red lights...
Just pleasant enough to carry a smile on your face
Going fast is one thing, Racing is another. Racing is for the track, but i do recommend everyone go, because it is o so relieving! |
Car pulled out on me SMIDSY. Had balls the size of grapefuits for a week or two. I have never been to a trackday, need to sort one out at some point, i'd be dreadful as like you say, going fast is one thing, thats the easy bit. ____________________ https://www.facebook.com/p/Francis-Lloyd_Cummings/630915297

Sometimes you're in the mood for a hoon, sometimes in the mood for a potter.
Just because you can go fast doesn't mean you always have to. But it's nice to have the option when you feel like it.
If I didn't like trackdays, I'd buy a less sporty road bike. Cos you're absolutely right, I'm nowhere near using all of it on the road, even when I'm 'hooning'. But it's my money, my time, my life and if I feel like pottering at 30% of what's possible, I will. |

I ride quickly only when its very safe to do so. I have a wife and 2 kids that I'd really like to see at the end of the ride
Now, compared to some thats still quite quick - I'll happily do well over 100 on A and B Roads with good visibility and I overtake a fair few bikes of all shapes and sizes, but I also get overtaken by more commited riders who are better at 'making progress'. I went for a fantastic ride today, out to Hawes, then a bit of biking nirvana that is the road from Hawes to Ingleton. Pretty much deserted and like a rollercoaster. I was pushing the bike a fair bit as I know the road well. Went past a few slower bikes, then got to the A65 whcih was pretty chocca with traffic. This is where I'm slower. I only overtake when theres a proper gap. A couple of GSXR1000's came flying past me and were basically filtering in 60mph traffic. Good luck to them - they certainly looked good riders, but for me I'm not willing to trust the dozy cages to keep to their own lanes at 60mph. I did when I was younger - just took every opportunity going, but now I am definitley a more cautious rider. Been riding 12 years without an off and would like to continue that pattern for the next 12 if possible |

I dont like the fact that i hoon, it just happens. On the way to work my journey consists of 4 dual carriage ways, and a long network of main roads which are really open and twisty. I find myself getting to 60 in the 4 seconds it takes me and then carrying on, because i like the speed. I dont want to lose my licence, i only got it a couple of weeks ago. I just cant see myself going overly slow. However, while on the way back from rivy today with a mate i found myself tootling along not at any great pace, for 15 mins or so. Though there was a lot of dicking about, like riding whilst sat on my tank, hitting my friends killswitch and other tom foolery.
It just depends what mood im in, road conditions and other such like.

There is an art in getting there safely and swiftly, making progress is a winner, it outweighs speed in many ways.
I make progress where others won't or can't...
I opt for a hoon as opposed to a potter though. |
