PostPosted: 08:12 - 03 Apr 2007    Post subject: What does £2-2500 buy? Reply with quote

I'm unsure what bikes are worth these days what with the used bike guide changing their way it lists what to pay it used to be based on year and C1-C2-C3 for conditon and year. And also other mags I sometimes look at like TWO also changing its used bike selecta.

So in the 600 category (street bikes say fazers/hornets) and sports 600s CBR6+ZX6R+what does this sort of money buy?. (other than the usual get out clause of things are worth what people'll pay for them) also VFRs?.

the VFR750 search I feel isn't going too well so I'm feeling more open to other bikes like fazers/hornets / ZX6Rs CBR6 etc, as its very close to the summer rush where prices apparently go up (though dealer prices seem to have remained fairly constant , all those old 98/99 CBRs are still advetised exactly at the same price they were in winter, and hagging takes very little off).

any thoughts?

Thanks

Buy Jay12329's hornet! It's have lots of useful mods aswell i.e rearsets, ohlins shocks, supercorsa tyres, braided lines, nice can.

It is yellow but you can't have everything.

£2k will get you a lot of bike to be honest. Could pick up an SRAD 750 for that money.

200-250 thousand penny sweets? Laughing

Seriously though, have a search of completed listings on ebay. Then you will be able to see all sorts of bikes that went for your sort of money. Us telling you might give you some ideas but if you can trawl through an see you might find something you personally hadnt thought of. Thumbs Up

Basically anything from a Deauville to a 98 R1!

No flames from this bandit owner. Hornets are better bikes. If a little female.

Why not do a search on autotrader for a 600cc bike between the prices you want.

...or you could go the 'classic' route and buy a near mint z650, put decent tyres on it, braided hoses, Hagon shocks and new pads... It wouldn't be as fast as the modern stuff but you would have a laugh, be noticed wherever you go and not lose a thing in depreciation!

...cost peanuts to insure too, and spares are cheap. After riding something like this for a couple of years (1970s brakes, weight and handling) any modern bike will be childsplay also...

I've come to the conclusion that £2500 only buys junk , every thing I;ve looked at around this price for 1998-2001 , is a piece of junk , you fire up the engine and hear a horrible rattle or they don't start,

I thinking of not buying a bike this year actually, too demoralised looking at too many crap bikes which are priced as if mint,

JUNK = worse than my NTV btw

thank you for your patience!

£2400 bought my 1999 ZX9R. Bit bigger that you're looking for, but pretty bullet proof, and certainly not junk - pretty much immaculate and the engines smooth as butter. I do think bigger capacity engine tends to last longer as they just arent as stressed for as long on an average ride. Plus a '99 ZX9R probably doesnt attract the same sort of nutter as a '98 R1 Wink

edit - Just seen your sig. If you're considering a VFR800 you probably should give the zx9R a look. Comapred to a blade/R1 its almost a sports tourer, comes in a couple of insurance groups lower and has loads of midrange grunt, and is very cheap.
