after identifying that GPZ 750 engine Embarassed , im trying to get the starter motor out, I have the cover off but there is a casing that needs to come off too, its under the carbs and down the left side.

It is held in by alan key bolts, but I snapped my alan key in them the're that tight. I got a new alan key sorted and they are just TOO tight, will NOT come undone at all, rather than coming undone they are starting to round off, any ideas?

cheers in advance (yet again)
andy

It'd be better having something gradual to apply pressure to the hex key to turn it.

If you have something longish you can fit over the end of the key to get more leverage on it then that would be good. If not perhaps try your foot gradually increasing the pressure against it.

Also spraying a bit of lubricant wouldn't go amiss, if you haven't already Wink

I guess you could try heating it up with something, if you have a blow torch or something.

Also perhaps try getting a flathead screwdriver and hitting it at an angle to the hex key bolt to see if it shocks it out. Should work to a similar degree as an impact driver does.

Allen keys are not any good for that, you need an allen socket.

As Finglonga says allen sockets are your friend. What wont budge with allen keys at all often comes out with little effort using sockets. Thumbs Up

If they were steel you could tack weld somthing on to lever it off.

Or try an inmpact driver.

if its rounded off, perhaps cut a T in it to make it take a flat blade.

Or drill it out Sick

Impact driver is the way to go. If the allen key is starting to spin then you could try tapping a star drive bit in the bolt. If you know someone with a welder you could try welding a old socket onto the bolt.

Chances are the bolts going to snap if its that tight, try letting it soak in plus gas or heating up to casing.
