Sometimes they can struggle a bit taking off from standstill.
Make sure you pin the throttle before letting the clutch out.

Assuming the service intervals are the same as my C2 its due a major service, with valve check and adjustment, at 24K. Budget about £300 I think.

They are pretty good bikes though - I havent ridden a B, but apparently they were a fair bit heavier than the C's and later, with poor standard rear suspension when pushed. Very strong engines though, and even better if you get a +4 degree ignition advancer, which will boost midrange by quite a bit. Costs about £50 and takes 10 minutes to fit.

I love my C2 - it really is a great all round bike. It looks and sounds pretty sporty, has 140ish hp but is comfy enough to ride for long miles. I havent done a massive run yet, but went out for 160 miles on good friday and had no aches and pains Thumbs Up

www.zx-9r.net is a great forum - tons of info and very helpful people on there.

The B models share prettly much the same engine with the ZXR750's. Only difference being they use a longer stroke and slightly bigger bore, otherwise all other parts are pretty much the same.

Chassis is more of a tourer though compared to the ZXR.

That said, still a very rapid bike. People will tell you of head gasket problems, but just ignore them, its not true.

I have a ZX9 B engine with high compression big bore JE pistons, taking it upto 950cc, thats just about to go in my ZXR chassis (track bike).

Very easy to work on, and as mentioned before, chuck on a +4 deg ignition advancer and you'll get better throttle responce. And you can also junk all the emissions crap that Kwak put on it and get rid of the stupidly large 200 main jets.

Thumbs Up
