hi,
i just had to put a new piston and barrel kit on my yam fs1 (only a 50 unfortunately). but i don't know how many miles i should run it in for before giving it some stick again.
i've heard 500 miles, but thats a lot.
i've also heard 100 miles, but thats not that much.
i'm going for the gentle run in at the moment, i've only got a month untill i can get a bigger bike, and cannot afford to spend more money on a bike im not keeping for long.
any help would be great guys..
cheers for your time

Speak to the supplier / manufacturer of the kit.

I gave my new set about 5-10miles and then gave it hell, did me 15,000miles ++

the recommended estimates for running in take the piss, just make sure you use plenty of 2 stroke oil and warm the bike up properly for the first 50 miles and then it will be fine!

Dont, it weakens the mixture and thus will seize the engine.
Leave it at the stock settings.

don't use fully synth oil when your running in!
it will help the clearances tighten up better, you really want to be looking at 300miles or more to get a good job but the whole running in topic is on here loads n loads most of which end in arguments lol Wink

yeah figured, knew not to use fully synth, but can't I just put new rings on/in, then be careful for 250-300 miles and rag it a bit? also what rev range is it best to use, what sped not to exceed etc.. Thanks. Thumbs Up

FFS just don't thrash it for a while. Let it warm up for a few minutes before you 'open the throttle'.

how does it weaken the mixture, Question

when i had 2 strokes i used to mix some with the petrol after changing rings or pistons, made lots of smoke !!

just take easy for first 50 miles and always warm up engine

I think he means by adding 2 stroke oil to the fuel in the tank(the old fashion way of mixing the oil).

The oil is mixed by the carb, so if you do this on a autolube bike, the oil will compete with the fuel trying to get through the mainjet-therefore weakening the mix and causing it to be lean and melt things.
