Should horse riders be made to carry a poopa-scoop to clean up after themselves? I travelled down a B road this afternoon and must have counted at least 10 freshly laid steaming piles in the centre of the road. I couldn't help imagining what could happen if you were unlucky enough to hit one of them.

You end up in a ditch with a broken bike, and the first question the copper asks you as paramedics are checking you over in the ambulance is "how fast were you going?".

We should just ban them altogether. That or increase the number of chinooks.

Got a horsefield just outside my road.
Which is always a laugh going down.
It's got speedbumps and horseshite.

recipe for disaster for an overtaking motorcycle.
Your overtaking, car pulls out, dodge car, hit shit, kill bike.

They go far too slowly and imo are dangerous on the road as they get scared of cars etc.

I still can't forget coming across one mid corner and scaring the hell out of the thing, I wasn't in a position to do anything about it, horse rider probably blamed me aswell Rolling Eyes

They should need to clear the crap up after themselves.

If dog walkers need to clear up after their animals then it only makes sense that an animal capable of leaving a HUGE steaming pile of excrement in the middle of the road is going to need some kind of shovel attachment.

I can only imagine the outcry if I were to take a dump in the middle of the road... especially after 6 pints of Guinness the night before Razz

This stuff will never change, horses will always roam about, bikes will always go down on the shit they leave, nothing can really be done about it unless the G'ment see a profit in stopping it(horse riding)
that is all.

yeah I agree, but how would we feel if we went a round a bend quickly on a nice quiet country lane and there, RIGHT in front of us is some divie who owns a horse picking up shit?

surely that would fuck us off as well, the rants would then be, "fucking horses shit on the road" "then the silly fuckers stand there in the middle of the road picking it up!!"

I think they should all just be banned from roads. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Ok.

Firstly the majority of horse riders Hate the roads and will use them minimally as it is so dangerous (mainly because of cars and lorries). But unfortuneatly we have no choice sometimes.

I can see what you mean about the poo in the roads and until i got into biking i never relised how much danger it caused but it desapers in a day or so or washed away. There is n the other hand no way on this planet that we could clear up after the horses its just not practical or safe. SORRY Embarassed . I would if i could.

There are some very stuck up riders around that dont treat bikers very well and are compleatly stuck up and are just looking for a reason to bitch but there are some that arent.

I have always wanted to say THANK YOU to all those bikers who have slowed down for me as it is very much apprecated and now my horse wont even bat an eyelid at bikes

THANKS

Thumbs Up

Went off track there but if you hit a Dollop at speed or on a bend it can be very slippy .

Not so sure on the oil and diesel (hardly like the amount dropped most of the time is really possible to clean up), but for the rest yes it should be cleaned up.

All the best

That'll make it substantially safer; the rider will tie their horse up by the road side with the passing traffic generally not slowing down much, the rider will then have to go and collect the shit from in the road. So ermmm yeah, it wouldn't really be practical.

Horses have every right to use the roads so get over it, just the same as car drivers who dislike bikes being on the roads aren't being reasonable. Suggesting banning them is a really stupid thing to be saying, "lets ban this dangerous minority of road users as some people with nothing better to do want them banned". Good thinking, hope you won't mind horse riders being supportive of motorcycles being banned next. Rolling Eyes

I didn't mention anything about banning them, I merely suggested they clean up after themselves . Maybe they should attach a bucket behind the horses' arses like they do in New York on the pony and traps.

end of the day, horses aint taxed, and CAN control themselves (ie if it goes off on one, the rider aint got much choice but to hang on really)

so if they need to be taken somewhere that can only be accessed by road, then they should be in a horse box.

you cant have a proper crosser on the road, they should be taken by trailer, so why not horses, if you have the money to keep horses properly, surely you have the money for a tow bar and second hand horse box?

just a thought

Heres a thought - Try not riding through it.

What's next? Complaining about dead animals in the road. "The nasty, nasty roadkill made me crash!"

Not much choice when it appears in front of you mid-corner.
That makes as much sense as saying "Don't like crashing? Here's a thought—try not crashing."
