Find out if they'll do a discount for Finance... they often will because the sales guys get commission on the finance packages.
if they won't give you the discounted price for cash, then you can be cheeky.
Buy it on finance, but pay off the finance company in full before thre first payment comes out. That way you incur NO interest, and the salesman doesn't get his finance commission

Totally depends on the dealer. In my experience the smaller guys are more likely to budge on price, the bigger ones will try to throw in "extras" but tend not to be as flexible on the ticket price.
Unless the bike you want is pretty rare if it's over your budget walk away. Either you will find another one at the price you want to pay or you can go back in say a month or so and if it's still there offer them your price again, they may be glad to get rid of it by then! ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

I had £500 knocked off my bike by walking in with the cash and saying, here's £2800, for that *point* bike, make it happen. ____________________ TheShaggyDA: I've got 3 or 4 pairs that predate my wife, so at least 11.5 years old. |

Just be careful with the finance thing in case there is a penalty for paying it out early.
Else you may end up paying more for it ____________________ meh |

I've never had a dealer ever budge on price , never ever ever ever and I've been to alot.
which is why I consider most dealers to be scum, who lie cheat and virtually steal , FSH my arse , oil is black as coal , brakes have no meat on them forks are pitted to hell, who exist purely to rip of newer biking folks.
and walking away ? , lets see including NC30s , VFR750s VFR800s , CBR600s ZX6Rs , I've walked away from well over 100+ bikes, ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. if it was That easy, then you probably paid too much

To be fair, I had been in there, and talked about price and such first, but when I knew I wanted it, I just went in there and said.
I paid a price I was happy with, and was a reasonable price considering other bikes avalible on the market.

I've bought 2 of my bikes from dealers, both times I got them for at least £200 less than the advertised price.
Fastline in Preston have told me they can get the brand new imported bike I want (even though they will not be getting it as stock, it will be a one-off order for me) and have promised me that they will beat any written quote from any other dealer for the total OTR price by at least £150, probably more, and will do the first service on it for free.
Maybe you're just not fluttering your eyelashes enough....... or actually opening your bag when they're looking to show them the cash in a big brown envelope........ ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

Cos it was prob an import, I had to take advantage of the 0% offer as I couldn't fund the bike myself and the £6500 wasn't from a Honda dealer and therefore no 0% so interest would have been over a grand making the bike £7500. + I fell in love with the Orange+black 06 rather than the red silver purple 05 I was using for bartering purposes ____________________ Prev CBR600RR (06) Orange/Black

The profit % the dealers work on for new bikes is very small, and generally not much more for used, if they wont lower the price of the bike ask them to throw in a helmet and some gloves, or get them to do a deal on servicing ____________________ We're all just born to die. So lets have some fun

Sorry, just a bugbear of mine. 'Barter' is a very commonly misused word. If you were bartering, you would be trying to swap something (not money) for the bike. What you are trying to do is haggle over the price.
The process of bartering often involves a certain amount of haggling but does not involve the exchange of money.
BARTER: to trade by exchange of commodities rather than by the use of money.
HAGGLE: To bargain, as over the price of something.

Could always try 'The Dealer so and so down the road has it this much cheaper'. Sometimes, in the spirit of competition, that will be enough to reduce things a bit. ____________________ Current: MT-10, Bandit, Grom, GPZ500
