title kind of explains itself...im new to biking, did my cbt bout a year ago but havent got my hands on a bike till now. i can ride it fine, I was just wondering if anyone has any tips for downshifting.

Pull in the clutch, press down on the gear lever, twist the throttle open in a kind of 'jerk' movement to bring revs up before you re engage the clutch.

You don't "need" to blip the throttle to down shift, with a new rider that may be giving them too much to think about.

Just left the clutch out at a medium pace, then when you have the speed and confidence for back wheel hopping to be an issue then worry about blipping it.

Ok, no biggie, but I read it on here after getting my bike and was doing it in a few hours of riding.

I doubt a new rider will be riding hard enough to be concerned about locking the rear wheel on downshifts. Blipping the throttle is a good idea but not for a noob. If you get the blip very wrong it could end in tears.

thanks guys. locking the back wheel was what actually prompted me to post this, but i guess i must have just changed down too early. thanks for your replies.
