I'm looking to get a Ninja ZX-6R once I pass my A2 test sometime in the summer. Has anyone ridden one before or riding one now? What are they like?(Handling, braking and the such) I understand that I would be upgrading from a 125cc bike straight to a 600cc(Obviously I will get it restricted to the 33bhp for the 2 years required) But what are your opinions as more advanced and experienced riders to someone upgrading to such a powerful bike? I'm not a stupid rider. I don't take risks on my machine, nor would I on any other machine. I've not checked out to whether the Ninja ZX-6R can actualy be restricted to 33bhp, i'm still looking into that front.

Handling: Well they go around corners.

Braking: They stop if you pull the lever.

And the such: Look good in green or black.

Hope that helped Wink

Dude, it really depends which model year and capacity your going for. The 599's are different year to year, and then the 636's are another world entirely, and they differ greatly model to model Laughing bottom line is, their better than gixxers Wink

Green one's only do 160 the Titanium will do 170 + Wink.
All the 600 are very similar get wich one you like the look of best, no offence to any R6"s owners but the R6 would be last on my list, if i were you i would be looking at the K4-5 GSXR, or the 05-6 ZXR. But thats because i have owned both Laughing .

Hold on you are going to restrict a ZX6R ? that borders on criminal , are you not old enough to do your
full A test? , a 100-115bhp bike cut down to 33bhp is sort of like being attracted to a wild beast cus its
wild dangerous and exciting , once you tame it it loses its attraction.

And thus is semi pointless, how about a ZX4R instead? resricting it = 55% of its power vs 28% of full power
400s are all (relatively) light handle very well and when restricted.

they restrict revs (some) and thus cornering ability accelerate round corners for extra grip sort of

IMO,, you would be better looking to get a J1/J2,, thats a 2000 or 2001 registration...

https://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y77/Richie-ninja/Wheelies04.jpg

The relaxed seating position is excelent for the first time rider of a big bike,, there is also plenty of power and performance there so it will be a while before you want to move onto somethign even more powerfull....

I've got a ZX6R F2 and it's a pretty damn fast bike and very comfy. It's planted and stable is all i can say. And if you need carb washers for restrictors; i've got some which i no longer need Razz

Dont bother with restrictions their for pussys Wink , to be honest if your going to get it restricted and use it every day get a 400, if your using it just for weekend blasts get an RS125 thay are known as a bit of a chavy bike, just get some leathers lern to ride it properly and jumping on a bigger bike will be a peace of piss if you can use the RS'es knife edge handling.

my mate just went from a bandit 400 to a 99 zxr-600 needless to say he loves it. he wouldnt let me try it out with it being his new toy but i had a sit on it, and it feels like it weighs less than my 400 Shocked he says it corners well, and he gets 110 in 3rd gear so its no slouch.

When I was getting quotes for my second 600cc bike (I'm only a year in to my 33bhp restriction, so another 10months ish to go) the ZX6-R's were reaaaally expensive to insure.

I mean stupid money, just about no-one wanted to give me insurance.

That's why I went for the R6. They're cheaper to insure with just about everyone (I ended up going with Motorcycle direct, and previously had Carole Nash) so I'd check insurance out.

It's not worth paying over the odds insurance for a 6R when you can save the money and spend it on a newer / nicer GSXR or R6 Smile

I have the 07 model, And its unreal, Nothing I dont like about it at all.
My only concern for you would be the restriction, Most of the power is mid-high range, So it may not take the restriction well. Older models may be different, I'm not sure.
