Need more info.

To start - it sounds like the carb floats are sticking.

Do you cut the engine, then turn the fuel off?

Sounds to me like your overflow pipe is split. If the carb is leaking fuel and then wont start for a while, it is probably because the float bowl is being emptied, and it takes a while for it to refill. I had a similar problem - the chain had worn through the overflow pipe and had effectively turned it into a drain pipe.

Hmmmmm,

My last NSR had no overflow pipe for >6 months. Not needed unless the carb overflows and thus directs the flow of fuel towards the floor.

What is causing the carb to empty itself in the first place?

Sticky floats is still my bet with an outside chance that the float pin/seat is worn, but shouldnt be on a relatively new bike.

the problem is well known , your petrol level in the float chamber is not correct . the fuel valve seat on a small piece of stainless metal . this piece is fixed on the floats . when the level go up the fuel valve go up and lock the fuel entry . the level in the float chamber must be 24mm+-1 . if it's too low your engine will die when accelerating , if it's too high you will have an overflow and a stuffing engine . i reconize it's not easy to set it but do it by small touch . i've tried to show how it is and hope this help

thanks too all, i will attempt to follow instructions, the overflow pipe isn't split so far as i can see, i dont have problems starting from cold only after bike is warm and has died for no reason, so does this point to something else?

Whats probably happening is it is using a carb full of petrol and then dieing on you because the float level is set wrong.

Carb full = about a miles worth of petrol.

thanks to all for pics, i have cleaned carb again and needle valve, hopefully put it back together right!! well it started and didnt cut out on me once had a good hours run seem to accelerate better, but it still has fuel dripping from breather pipe, not much, enough to cover two pound coin overnight, not a puddle like previous, so is this normal or should i still be worried.

Glad it is a lot better. Sounds like the float height is still a snatch out and when the bike is tipped onto the side stand you are getting a slight overspill.

I know it is a pain to keep stripping the carb but use Alains tips for getting the best float height.
