My x8r-x is having problems. It used to do 52 (indicated) on a flat and now it does 46 and it starts to spit/splutter and just generally misbehave at this speed. I also havnt got the same lift, although sometimes i get lift, only when its cold or you have stoped it 5mins and start it again, although the lift then quickly disappears. I tryed another plug, although not new and it made no difference.
What could it be?

first of all try a NEW plug.
then check the electronic choke isnt sticking(wire that goes into the carb).
also clean the airfilter element.

then report back.

out of intrest, do you have a derestricted C.D.I or restricted?
i use to own one of thoes 6years ago, f*cker to fully derestrict. so many restrictions on them, gave up in the end and sold it. still got the original derestricted C.D.I kicking about never got round to throwing it lol.

have you found it any slower up hills? If so then its most likely you're clutch rollers are worn. Inquire at the dealer about getting some lighter rollers - they arent much money - should make it faster and better up hills Smile

Got new plug, no difference. Cleaned air filter, no difference.
I see this wire for the choke that you are taking about, what will I do with it?

unscrew the 2 small screws, slide off the little half circle clip then pull out the black automatic choke unit which the wires go into. clean out the inside of the carb where the automatic choke unit came out of, clean the choke unit its self(you'll know what part i mean when you see it, has from memory a spring around it i think)

as said before get your-self lighter rollers they are around a tenner for 6(which is how many you need) check the condition of the rubber drive belt too, from memory when i owned the X8R-S the performance suddenly decreased, found the problem to be a very worn drive belt.

hope this helps, report back.

P.S there is 8 restrictions on the X8R try taking a look at https://taffspeed.co.uk/page43.html for a run through of the derestrictions and how to deal with them.

Mechanic says its flooding.
So my question is what is it i will do when i take the carb apart?
Would be as simple a thing as the float sticking?

Its most likely to be the float that has stuck open but it could be the choke that is sticking (providing it has an auto-choke).

Had the autochoke out.
It was clean and seemed to be working fine.
Still bad acceleration and top end.
What else now?

Are you 100% positive its flooding. Ped dealerships have a nasty habit of taking people for a ride as they mainly get new riders who have no clue. Swapping to some lighter rollers normally helps. Mine went at 5000 miles ony my old ped and it slowed accelleration, top end and made it go about 2mph up hills. It varies between bikes though.

No point in lighter rollers. They are 6gram and that is 2.5g lighter than standard.
Its just it goes normal once you start it, but this only lasts for the 1st time you start off, next time you start off its dead. Whether its cold or not it will splutter at 46mph and wont go full speed.

have you had a look at the condition of your air filter? If its all covered in crud then it won't be letting enough air through for the fuel to burn fully.

haha I know how you feel. Mine started off as the fastest ped out of all of us but it ended up as the slowest - thats aprilia quality for you.

All I can suggest is take it to another dealer to get a second opinion.
