 |
|
Well the time has come.
After 2 years at 33bhp (my own choice I never did DAS ).
The restrictors are coming out today on the ER and were taken out on the Z yesterday (I've not picked it up yet).
What should I expect? I would think on the ER there shouldn't be much difference.
But the Z?
One thing I am worried about, is being more careful with all the extra power. Coming out of a corner and giving it some on a 33bhp , i've never had a problem, but on a 100+bhp bike?
Where should I be more careful, what shouldn't I do.
Any help appreciated.

absolutley take it easy mate, if you do feel tempted to whack open the throttle make sure its on a straight road with nothing in front of you
you can also expect to find yourself grinning like a cheshire cat i would imagine, good luck have fun and ride safe ____________________ current bike...CBR400RR

I remember when I was switching regularly between a 125cc with about 11bhp, and a Bandit.
I found it tricky at first, I'd get on the Bandit and forget how different it felt and how it reacted differently to surfaces and what not. Same visa-versa. Eventually though I got the nack of just not expecting anything and riding as it comes.
Just treat it all as a gradual process. Take it smoothly and progressively. It can be tough sometimes on a bike with anything over 80bhp to pin it and get all over excited with the adrenaline and what not but as long as it doesn't overwhelm you I am sure you'll be alright.
I don't intend to sound patronising as if you haven't ridden a bike before, but some people say 'take it easy at first'. Yeah, do. Take it easy afterwards as well, I've done some stupid things on bikes when I'd gotten out of the 'oh new bike' routine and something or other has bitten me in the ass, don't want it happening to others without warning. |

You'll get used to it in no time, then it will get boring
Just take it easy with the throttle, the bike will be easier to ride than restricted. ____________________ Back on a Blade. Just feels so right. |

You know how the engine sounds and the bike works so 'cruising' shouldn't be all that different as you're using the lower part of the rev range. Just be aware that when you are used to it running out of steam and changing up, it'll suddenly start making power which initially will make your vision blur.
I've never had a bike derestricted before but I reckon the best bet would be to pootle along to a long, quiet, straight bit, get it into third gear and open the throttle. Leave it there until it's up at the redline. Have a glance at the speedo before you decide to give it another gear when you get up there.
You will now know what it'll do ( in 3rd, a fair bit over the speed limit among other things), ride accordingly. I say third because it isn't going to do anything unexpected other than warp-speed as it hits the power in third, there's a risk of wheelieage in first and second.
Let us know how you got on. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Remember that things will be coming towards you much quicker and sooner than before so just leave yourself a bit more of a margin for braking.
Other than that get out there and rag it |

I don't think I could restrict the Z after having it at full power. Although one thing I did notice coming off the RS (which was about 30bhp) is that you can pin the throttle coming out of corners... don't try it on the Z, it took me a while to stop the back wheel stepping out on me a few times
