there is a way to get them off but when i had mine off the other week on my nsr we had the whole side of the engine case off. i wouldnt reccomend taking it off unless its really necessary. have you looked for a manual for your bike because there could be a specialist tool needed to slip it out.

The bike is 18 years old so manuels are hard to come by. The netuarl light switch is leaking oil badly and its behind the casing off the water pump.

Just looked in the FZR (600) manual that I have:

Arrow Impeller
Cracks, wear, damage - replace water housing pump assembly

Arrow Oil seal
Wear, damage - replace water pump housing assembly.

From this, I would beleive that the unit has to be changed as a 'whole' rather than the impeller and parts.

'Align the slot on the back of the impeller shaft with the projection on the oil pump shaft' . It should just pull out?

Yeah, just had a look at the parts fiche, the impeller and shaft are all one, in order from the impeller inwards you have the impeller and shaft, mechanical seal, back plate, bearing, circlip and o' ring.

From what I see if all the bolts are out of the pump housings the whole thing 'should' pull out. when replacing make sure the slot on the impeller and projection on the oil pump shaft line up before tightening the bolts.

I need the circilp off to slide the shaft out or do you think if I just pulled it thre bearings would come out to.

I thought from looking at it that the back plate was held onto the bike with the bolts which go right through the water pump cover, the bearing behind it is in a boss in the back plate which is pushed into the crankcase, so if you wiggled it, it would come out, shaft/back plate complete, its bound to be tight after all this time.

If you pull the impeller/shaft you'll cause the circlip to spring off and land in the bottom of the box.

all the impeller housing has to come off. yo cant just remove the impeller.i rebuilt my 1000 waterpump not long ago its the same. if you try pulling the impeller out you will damage somthing and it will cost you more in the long run. its a easy job to remove so wy try and cut corners.?the only thing you may have to replace are a couple of orings.
