Either my bike wants to take me to Vegas or its trying to kill me.

Yesterday I had a quick look at the carb and oil pump to make sure any balancing marks were where they should be, and check the cleanliness of the carb.

I covered everything back up as it was and started the bike. All was well, untill I turned the bike around to face the road. Then the bike reved its nuts off. I checked and there was no cable snag nor was excess air getting to the carb.

I didn't have time to mess around so I had to make my journey carefully and turning the engine off when stopped at junctions.

I sorted the problem by playing with the idle speed screw, even though I hadn't changed it from my last ride.

Today I went out on the bike and while in 3rd gear, the throttle stuck open. I had to flick the iginition and pull over.

Luckily I had a screw driver with me, I opened up the carb cover, to notice that the carb throttle valve/piston had got stuck open. Shocked
I played around with the top retainer that holds the throttle valve in the carb body. Now i'm unsure how tightly this should screw down as if screwed down well the carb sticks open, if left very very loose the throttle will open and close as intended.

My concern is that the throttle might get stuck again at a more dangerous time.

Make sure that the cable is well lubed aswell , and as for the bolt ........ Do you have a Haynes manual for the bike ? As there should be a torque setting in there for it.
Thumbs Up

there is no manual for my model kh125-k9 but i have a manual for earlier models. Is not a bolt its just a round cover that screws over the top of the carb cylinder, its a bit hard to describe.

Check that the cable is in the top of the carb all the way and that it is not
getting stuck up the line by the tank or anything.
There could be air getting in between the carb and the barrel.

Paddy.

here is a pic of the carb;

The pink bit highlights the screw/cap thingy I was talking about. basically if i have this on tight, the throttle valve sticks open.

On the right highlighted in blue is some rubbery yellow gunk. This appears to be covering an outlet in the carb, any idea what this is for?

Yellow stuff will be on an over flow valve, and the cap just needs to be hand tight.
