Outlook express taking ages to open..

..I've just installed a fresh Windows Xp Pro & my Outlook Express takes about 20 secounds to open, looked around the net but can't see why other then being clogged up which mine obviously isn't, any guesses as to why?

Back to Outlook, does anyone know what's wrong with it & why it's taking ages to load of a fresh install?

I'm guessing that it's stuck in send/receive when you open it up. If that's the case, then it might just be having trouble connecting to your pop/imap/smtp servers. Double check all your mail profiles and make sure that the listed servers are spelled correctly and are contactable. Also make sure that your computer is actually online when you launch the application.
Another possibility is that you've got a message stuck in your outbox that's trying to send whenever you start up. If that's the case, then removing the message should fix the problem.

If it's still giving you grief, then launching it from the command prompt with the /safe flag should force it to open without trying to connect to any servers straight away. It's not a permanent fix, but it'd at least determine whether the problem's being caused by the mail client timing out a connection on startup.

Lastly, as just about everybody else here as mentioned, I'd strongly recommend using a different mail client if you have the option.

Cheers techierob, but just had another search & found the problom & the fix. Post it up incase anyone else has the same problom.

Here is the reason and the fix.........

Sometimes removing or disabling Windows (or MSN) Messenger causes OE to open slowly. This will be shown by an entry in the system error log:

The server {FB7199AB-79BF-11D2-8D94-0000F875C541} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

To fix this, open Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
\CLSID
\{FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541}
\InProcServer32

In the right-hand pane, double-click on the (Default) value and delete whatever is entered there, leaving it blank. Click OK. Now perform exactly the same step with the key directly underneath, namely

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
\CLSID
\{FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541}
\LocalServer32

Once both (Default) values are empty, OE will open normally

I hope this fix makes a few people happy
