Firstly, why did you feel the need to repeat the post title several times? Secondly, how old are you? Go get a part time job down Asda or something.

If you want a properly interesting job then you're probably going to have to do some less than interesting ones in the mean time - and you're going to have to put some effort into achieving your goal as well.

Some people are lucky, but most have to work for stuff.

I see my job as a means to an end - so that I can enjoy the time I'm not working more. When it is interesting, it's a bonus.

I think you dreaming tbh.

I was a lifegaurd when i was 16-17 and was great, was a private pool which no one came in and got to bring my laptop in and use their wireless internet (being a hotel and all)

However, no i do bar work when im not at uni which is ok. I relised i would never get a job like the one i had before as when you 18 they are few and far between.

Just count yourself lucky you have 2 good jobs at this age and go do a normal job, like delivery or bar work Thumbs Up esp since its only for 6months

^^ What he said.

I used to love my job as a shelf stacker in Kwik Save and it has been the only job I genuinely loved. I only left because it's not something I could make a career of. The people were great, the job kept you fit and you got home at the end of the night feeling like you had earned your money.

If I could earn what I earn now doing it, I would go back to Kwik Save at the drop of a hat. Thumbs Up

Go register yourself with a temp agency - this time of year the financial institutions are always looking for temporary staff to deal with end of tax year issues. You could probaby get an admin job for about £6 - £7 ph. Failing that, call centre work is stressful but is always available and easy to get away from. Unless you believe only the plebs should be doing these jobs...

im going to see if theres anymore work at the ol ski centre first, because the pay wasnt bad there.

Best to avoid the pizza or courier work...

Unlikely that tesco's are going to give an 18 year old a delivery van with insurance... they might, but i would guess not...

Best of with bar work if you can deal with drunks or shelf stacking tbh...

Personally i have more respect for a shelf stacker than someone who is handed everything they want... Its honest work, alright not glamorous, but welcome to the real world mate, get used to it Razz

Its nothing to do with love 'shelf stackers so much'. Its the fact you act as if doing a menial job is 'below' you somehow. Theres nothing wrong with these types of jobs and its attitudes like yours combined with the dole generation that relegates decent jobs to the level of 'immigrant work'.

who said anything about immigrants? and why is it wrong for me to not want to stack shelves? Very Happy
oh, im sorry, because i consider myself superior, thats right Confused
i dont want to stack shelves because its not work that interests me. nothing against shelf stackers, one of my friends is one.
i like my job to have meaning, which is why i dont want to settle for something like that, is it really that wrong to set my sights high? because so far ive done quite well.
how many people do you know who have a pension scheme at 18?
so i think im quite justified to want a job im going to enjoy.

There's almost no chance of getting a wonderful, fulfilling, interesting job at 18, never mind at any later stage.
Just get some experience in, it doesn't matter what it's in as long as you get paid and have something to put on your CV.
Otherwise you'll end up finding a job you really want to do, but not having the relevant experience to be employed.

What you actually stated stacking shelves was degrading. According to the Oxford dictionary degradig is defined by "causing a loss of self-respect; humiliating".

So you somehow believe at 18 doing a menial job is going to lower your self respect or humilate yourself. More importantly it means you see other people who do these menial jobs as below you since they are doing jobs which you believe to be humilating.

As a professional who has done such jobs (and a lot bloody worse) I think that attitude is quite disgusting.

I would believe that had you not also stated you would easily be unemployed if it wasn't so boring (a high flyers attitude). So a menial job is below you, the dole could be acceptable if it was more interesting and you want a temporary job for a few months that has some deep meaning.

To be honest, you sound full of shit. Go to the job center and have a look. If its physical work then get a job with the council helping on the roads, that way you'll get banter and exercise plus be outside during the summer. If its social/chatty then go to a call center. If its a religious experience you seek then help a charity. But don't tell any of them that you find any minimum wage job 'degrading' or they will think your a jumped up little prick.

a professional what exactly? from what i can tell so far, a professional nitpicking arsehole.

what your basically saying is that because im 18 i should aim to go for jobs that i wouldnt normally want? theres more to life than supermarkets you know.

Actually what I am saying is I don't think you want to work. I think your mummy and daddy pays for your clothes, your beer money and possibly your future education. And its because you come from a well off family you believe menial jobs are below you.
