Starting looking for travel insurance quotes for my trip to New Zealand in October - most companies wont touch you if you are hiring a bike (rather than taking your own) due to it being a "dangerous activity".

Well, i was searching via a search engine and up popped Carole Nash, that do travel insurance and definitely includes riding bikes, and also covers all of your gear.

Does anyone else know of, or used any other companies which include travel insurance for riding bikes.

Its mainly the medical side of it if we have an accident that i am worried about. Mr. Green

thanks

The only other company that I know of that will cover you for such a dangerous activity of biking is the post office. You have to pay a little bit extra for that cover.

I'm going away soon in Europe for two weeks and I bought cover with Carole Nash as it was slightly cheaper and they offered a lot more cover for things like helmets and panniers.

Be warned, when I checked Post Office cover, they specifically exclude anything over 125cc. Maybe they have since changed it, but do check.

I used Carole Nash Worldwide cover this year (Russia and Moroccan trips). Luckily I didn't have to claim so I can't really give any idea of service, but like most insurance companies they were excellent at taking my money Smile

Their clauses seem reasonable and will certainly get you home, and well cared for. Its probably the best as you will be certain of no problems with the bike side of things. Anywhere else and you risk them refusing cover due to a clause you may have missed.

Good luck.

I currently have free travel insurance anyway, but they only allow riding of bikes over 125cc if no accidents or convictions and must have had a licence for more than 3 years!!!

Bloody joke - Carole Nash have been great so far with my bike insurance and i would be happy for them to cover me on travel insurance if it definitely means cover while riding a bike for me and wife to be!!

Post office covered me no problem. I think the clause read something like "nothing over 125cc unless you hold an appropriate licence" but that was a couple of years ago.

Then I found out that in Florida the rental bike places do a dirt cheap personal injury waiver as standard so you can ride with no lid.

Been using Snowcard for my euro activity trips for years now (and for a USA one).

Rang them the other day and they said they would cover me on my zed600 for my France/Spain trip in July

£35-40 IIRC inc helicopter evac and repatriation.

Once the paperwork arrives I'll check the small print and post again
