RVF will take the restriction a bit better.
Consider an NC30, you'll save more in insurance and purchase cost. ____________________ My Flickr |

Much of a muchness. The RVF is just a tartier version of the VFR, they share engines. It's more expensive to service RVF forks because they are upside downies. There are also more second hand spares for VFR's than RVF's in my experience at least. ____________________ My Flickr |

They're essentially very similar bikes engine design wise so maintaining them will cost the same... eg: A fortune, if you don't do it yourself!
The NC30's tend to be cheaper, but they're older.
I'm fairly confused by your original post though. It actually doesn't make much sense?
What I can gather - You're soon to be 17. You're not sure whether getting an R6 is a good idea? And if you were to get one should you buy a 2002 model or wait 2 years and buy a brand new one? Or you're going to wait and get a RVF400 even though you're thinking of gettting an R6 now or waiting and buying a brand new R6??? ____________________ Current Bikes - Kawasaki ZX-6R (636) | BMW G650GS |

It's not worth getting an R6 now due to lots of reasons dicussed on this forum recently.
more insurance
higher purchase price
If you're restrictors blow away a full power 600 is a bit step with little experience. ____________________ My Flickr |

Get the VFR, learn to corner etc. then step up to a full power 600 whatever that may be in a year or 2. ____________________ My Flickr |

"rvf better sound?"
Do they sound much different???? The difference in looks are minimal to say the least. The RVF has upside down forks, prettier eyes and a subtle difference in position. And for that you get charged a whole lot more. You're buying your first bike you'll be learning your trade, possibly even drop it. I'd be aiming to get the cheapest bike you can get your hands on if I was you.
NC30's are hardly ugly (Gratuitous use of my bike)

Get what you want and can afford.
The 400 will take the restriction ALOT better than the R6, like i've said before its criminal to restrict a 600, just doesn't feel like its running properally.
Both bikes engines sound very whiney and electrically, but the 600 with a decent zorst will sound better than a 400 with a decent zorst IMO.
Lets face it you won't keep the restrictors in for long so i suggest you go for the 400, however the R6 is a VERY nice bike, not biased at all, and lots of fun can be had on it - plus the tart factor
At the end of the day no matter what we all say its ultimatly your decision. I'm glad i got my R6 when i was 18 and have not regretted it for one min (other than the fixing cost's ) ____________________ Paul

Erm...I am assuming you're planning on passing your test as soon as you are 17? You don't mention that anywhere. ____________________ CBR125|||GSXR400|||CBR400|||CBR400|||CB250RS|||GSXR750|||CB250RS

Aha, that's clearer, thanks.
I'd agree with avoiding the R6 for now, get some riding under your belt. NC30/35 restricted will seem powerful enough after training school 125's.

first of all have you ever ridden a motorbike before?? i would even suggest going out on the back of one just to get a feel of things if you havent already. What you have to remember is a vfr/rvf has around 55-60hp where as a r6 has 100+, the vfr/rvf will have a top end of around 115mph the r6 around 160mph, not saying you will do this but just laying facts down, the r6 is also quite an agressive bike esspecially for a first bike, i would get the vfr/rvf at the best you can find, this doesnt mean spending lots of money but taking your time looking at the bikes, keep the restrictors in till you feel safe and ready to take them out, get used to cornering, acceleration and even braking as these are sharp, gradually build your confidence up then go out for a ride with fellow riders and build more confidence, once you are ready get the restrictors taken out if you wish, dont ever feel pressured to get them out quicker as you may come unstuck with them, just remember once they are taken out you are doubling your power and trust me it feels alot different!!!! Good luck with your test and think about the bike before you buy one, make sure its a gooden ____________________ Will b- Sv650s sport K6 in napolean blue and loving it -https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v499/EscortBoy1/jackson.gif |
