 Posted: 11:58 - 17 May 2007 Post subject: Exhaust Fell Off |
 |
|
The exhaust fell off my GPZ, and now it's a tad loud, too add to the fun, the MOT is due next month.
Anyone know, if I can put something up the exhaust, make it alot quieter and with a bit of luck, pass the MOT, or should I save myself time and hassle, and get a new exhaust system for it?
Any other ideas?
Many thanks in advance. ____________________ TheShaggyDA: I've got 3 or 4 pairs that predate my wife, so at least 11.5 years old. |

You won't pass MOT with a duff exhaust fella... regardless of noise. For a start, a 2T with a duff exhaust will have duff backpressure which'll result in your exhaust gases failing emissions test, which some MOT Testers do and some don't...
Just fix it properly with the correct pipe for the bike. ____________________ FAB-Racing MiniMotoSidecars - Back with a vengeance - F1 Class 2011...

Well, I've kinda crushed the end of the exhaust, and it's alot quieter, was thinking of putting something up there and somehow stop it from coming out. Not sure what though. ____________________ TheShaggyDA: I've got 3 or 4 pairs that predate my wife, so at least 11.5 years old. |

Bikes are not checked on emissions and all GPZ's are 4strokes.
As for something to quieten it down, use reverse psychology . . . . Shove some earplugs up it. ____________________ Andy Sez....

Just as a coincidence I was working on the bike in my garage till 11pm last night... replacing the downpipes on the GPZ.
The crossover pipe had pretty much rusted thru, and my previous botch job at repairing it was still allowing it to sound like farm machinery.
Just for the record I ordered the pipes Sunday night, online from LM Spares in Hereford - and they arrived on Tuesday morning ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

What sort of exhaust (original, motad?) and where did it break?
They can sometimes be welded you know, the end was welded back onto my motad three times. Maybe a bit late if you've crushed the end though. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Motad, and it broke just after the 2-1 bit. Unfortunately, I never found the bit that fell off, which was from the brake backwards, which is why I looked as destructive repair.
Just got a new one from ebay though, for a reasonable amount, so swapping it over. ____________________ TheShaggyDA: I've got 3 or 4 pairs that predate my wife, so at least 11.5 years old. |
