VFR400 brakes binding

hi all i have replaced the front pads on my VFR400. The pistons in the calipers were a bit seized and i had to use a G-clamp to push them back in. This seemed to work and the brakes were good. Then all of a sudden the brakes are partially binding on.

Whats the way forward? new calipers?

Take out the piston and clean it up with (dry) wet and dry.

Brake fluid absorbes moisture which then reacts with the alloy of the brake caliper. When you stripped the caliper down did you remove the seals? If you did you would have found a load of crud behind them that is oxidised aluminium. This needs to be carefully removed. I use a small brass-wire brus with soft bristles.
Also a varnish can build-up on the actual rubber seal itself which needs to be carefully scraped-off using a plastic ruler/fingernail etc.

If you clean the seal and the groove behind it you should find the pistons slide in easily. Put some silicone grease on the piston to keep water away from the seals.

The seals as Geri said need to be changed as well. I had big problems with my FZR brakes and was sorted once stripped, cleaned and seals replaced.
