Some of you may or may not know that when i went back to uni for the last semester i decided to not take the speed four mainly due to living in Bath City centre and the road i live on has student accommodation and some quite dodgy council flat/house that i've seen the police at at least 3 times this year.

This was all fine, till today. One of my flatmates come back in from subway and says some ducati 9999999999.... was outside. Now, knowing that i would NEVER park a 999 outside my accommodation i go and have a look and there is a '05 999s outside with a few nice extras (termi exhaust, open clutch cover). The bike seems to be in fair condition.

So, the point to this. I spent £2k on a bike and would never risk parking it out in this road in question but yet the guy (or girl) that owns this feels that its worth the risk even though the bike is worth a lot more.

So, would you take a risk like this? it is chained to the lamppost so be harder to put it in a van but its resting on the floor so easier to cut.

Sorry about the poor quality:

From my bedroom window (at the end of the road you are right in the centre and can see the bike from it quite easily.

Thats what i was thinking, pull a van up next to it, gets some huge chain cutters, get that chain off that doesnt look great anyways and have 3 lift it into van and 1 keeping point. Some of the extras would fetch nicely on ebay along with the rest if you broke it

Due to my claim and 0NCB being 18 i had to go TPO, so would get sweet FA, plus im quite a careful person when it comes to bike and would NEVER think of leaving a bike like that around here!! The S4 will be going in a nice secure garage next year Very Happy

Thats got easy target written all over it. It's just a question of what will happen first, vandalised by pissed up students or loaded into the back of a local pikeys van.

Someones brave. I'd give that about 2 weeks before its nicked. 1 week for the local shits to get wind of where its parked and then another week for them to pluck up the courage to nick it.

I agree with the others, give it a few weeks, at the least it'll get vandalised. I got my bike fiddled with first night outside my student house, and that was under a cover in a yard.

My halls in the centre of Bristol were far worse though, would never contemplate keeping a bike there.

I say stick a note on it telling him it's in a rough area and will be gone shortly if he doesn't aquire some common sense!

I worry about my bike and it's parked in my yard, behind my dads car and under a cover, with the steering lock on and 2 chains wrapped around it, in a fairly quiet area!

The scrotes generally wont touch anything bigger than a 250 unless it looks like a dirt bike.

Besides which, it'd break down before they got to the end of the road.

I certainly wouldn't leave a Ducati 999 there on a permanent (or even occasional basis. Like SpannerMonkey said it has got 'target' written all over it.

On the other hand I suppose you have got to balance up whether or not it is worth owning a motorcycle if you have to leave it at home most of the year for fear of it getting nicked at your student accomodation. At the end of the day you have got to weigh up the pro's and con's of it all and make your decision from that.

Undercover police clamping down on bike theives, OR an idiot.

Not many people are brave enough to park a bike like that in a busy city area.

On the other hand, could it be a crime squad? If it is its probably being watched 24/7 from every angle possible so don't go too close just in case Laughing

I wouldn't leave it there either - it's likely to get a parking ticket.

I'd have 2-disclocks on each of the front discs, plus one on the rear, an alarm, immobiliser, tripped killswitch, removed fuses, disconnected coils, turned off fuel tap, and 5 or 6 almax chains keeping it in place.

The owner of that ducati must be a friggin' loon!

Unless he's sat looking out of his window through the scope of a rifle waiting for the next opportunist thief to come along, in which case he is a model citizen Thumbs Up

I'd be more worried about it being vandalised than nicked, if it's chained and alarmed and in a busy central area it's going to be difficult to nick without someone seeing or hearing.

Only needs some kids/drunks to find it and have a play with it and you've got broken plastics and vomit on your seat, nasty.

In that last picture it looks so vulnerable and obvious. I expect it to be keyed, seat/tyres slashes, and pushed over Mad

I couldn't even leave my ninja outside in the pissing rain, and that wasnt even rust prone Neutral

Maybe its his only transport due to car being feked or something?

I wouldnt leave it there personally but, some people, especially if they can afford the cash easily arent that bothered about it getting nicked as to them its not great deal cash and itll be insured for theft

Nice to see the high regard we have for our fellow citizens Neutral

I've parked both the car and 'bike in all kinds of places all over the UK and I've only had one minor case of "vandalism", and one "hit and run".
