I'm depserate top get back into biking again, after a year out. My last bike was 1999 SRAD GSX-R600... I've been offered an X-plate Kawazaki Ninja 600 J1.

I've never owned/ridden a Ninja - can anyone tell me anything about them?

It's my mates bike, he's just bought an 03 Ninja... this one has 13,500 miles on the clock, MOT and Tax til 2008, 2 new tyres, going for £2k, good deal?

it's mates rates! I've seen the bike, its in good nick, and he wouldn't mug me about - he's just after a quick sale....

How do they compare to Gixxers though? Completely different animal?

Are they reliable?

A mate brought a 51 plate j1 from a dealer for £2200 with 11,000 mile and its full service history.

Still not a bad price but offer him 1800 cash and see if he takes it.

A green J1 ZX6-R in good condition for £2k and you need to ask? It would probably sell for £2.5k any day of the week assuming it really is in good condition.

{not being rude, but usually its people who don't know anything about bikes who refer to them as ninjas. I usually just say ZX6R or ZX9R or whatever... for some reason using the word ninja in that way screams "I don't know anything about bikes!" I'm not saying this applies to you at all, as you used to have a Gixxer 6 etc, but usually if some chav comes up to me and asks me about the bike he usually follows with "Yeah my uncle used to have a Kawasaki Ninja." }
