Got a bike recently, did it while meeting half way with the seller, he filled out the details in the V5C for me, gave me the slip, then I parted with my cash, but in all the rush he just buggered off and said he'd post the V5C tomorrow. He gave me an MOT cert though. I checked that the VIN number matched upw tiht he logbook quickly, but...
We both just buggered off, I gave him my bike in PX, (told him to get a new logbook at the DVLA for it as I had lost mine)..Anyway, not only did I part with my cash, I parted with my previous bike too which TBH was a heap of crap.
Problem is... No receipt of sale, and he seemed a bit dodgey when I called him earlier and asked for his address. He avoided the question. Oh crap where do I stand over this?
Clocks HAVE Been changed, as well as ignition, some side panels and other bits. ____________________ CBT: Passed - (3/4/07)

Take it to the police station and ask them if it is stolen
Is the number you have for him a mobile or landline? ____________________ Bikers make great organ donors, get 115 on your licence today. |

Apart from not getting a receipt I don't see a problem. IT's his responsibility to send off the reg documents and if anything he should worry about having your bike without them. Also, if you have used your old bike on the road you should have got a replacement V5 because you are now legally responsible for it's taxation until it's re-registered. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Ok but what if it isn't stolen, and say for example it's a scam he pulls.
The bike was "recovered stolen", that much I know, which makes me a little more suspicious.
Like put it this way, I don't know where the guy lives, so I couldn't match up the V5C with his address, nor do I know exactly if the name was legit on the V5C. It was just all totally rushed.
So like what if he sells it on, then just pisses off, a few weeks later reports it stolen and then they whip the bike off me because he tips them my address (he knew my address because I told him to drop some part offs at next weeks).
So then, they return the bike to him, and he got my cash in his pocket and rinses and repeats the scam. He could possibly prey on new bikers like myself and target them specifically for this type of scam.
So what I'm trying to say is that if he tried to pull that scam on me, just by me having the new keeper's slip, does that at all give me a chance to defend myself and say "Why the fuck would I have this slip if I stole it. I'd have taken the whole fuckin logbook".. Technically I could still get my bike back, but it ain't worth much, and I payed 80% in CASH. ____________________ CBT: Passed - (3/4/07)

Personally I would apply for a log book for the old bike then send it off with the new owner's details. You'll have to pay of course but it's cheaper than a £80 fine. I certainly wouldn't make a false report of theft and risk getting nicked for wasting police time. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
