for a while, i have known that some people take out the slack of the throttle cable.

i know that bikes usually have a bit of slack so when doing a u turn they arent gonna accidentally put too much throttle on

i have adjusted mine to no slack and i love it

in fact i've gone a bit further so its actually increased the idle speed a bit as the throttle doesnt fully close

it feels great

much smoother at low revs

and much easier to whack on full throttle if i want to

makes the bike feel more powerful as less wrist action gets more results

it even has a slight cruise control effect

id recommend ppl try it

there isnt much engine braking now, and i just use clutch and brake if want to slow down

anyone got any thoughts on this ?

words of caution ? etc

At the moment Im thinking i should have done it years ago.

Awesome Laughing Wink

I'm happy with the gix's throttle to be honest.

There doesn't feel like there is any slack.

Which of your bikes did you do it to ?

i did it with the triumph tt600

i think its particularly good as the fuel injection is a bit iffy on tt600s at low revs, so my little adjustment makes things much smoother at low revs, aswell as making it easier to get to high revs

Only problem with a higher idle is that you lose braking efficiency. I wouldn't do it personally. T

just a little bit

the R1 was a bit much for me tho, i was never gonna thrash it, and so it wd just make my riding lazy

im just growing into the tt600 now, a year later. Ive only just started hitting the rev limiter, and Im only just getting into highish revs clutch release starts.

Maybe by next year I'll be doing race starts, keeping the bike between 11000 rpm and 13000 rpm, and hanging off with max lean and getting my knee down.

Or maybe not.

anyone got any other little tweaks to the bike i could try ?

if i want to brake with the back wheel, i can use the back brake, which is gonna brake much more than engine braking

I have done this to my 675 to try and shorten the throttle action.

As you're not limited by class regulations, I'd definitely recommend a quick action throttle (which I'm not allowed, so I've added some cable ties superglued to the throttle tube to speed it up a bit) - you do have to be a bit more careful, however it can remarkably change the way a bike feels and how punchy it is.

Just adding some light grease under the throttle tube and ensuring the cable is well oiled can make it feel quite a bit more lively.

Personally i couldnt be without engine braking, and it does sound a little dangerous. A similar feeling to entering a bend on a false neutral, and having no drive to take you round.

What do you think's likely to happen when you take drive away from the rear wheel and then brake it?

Do it in the wet and the effect becomes even more exciting Mr. Green

Colin, what you have done is VERY dangerous. You should never take all of the slack out of the cable and never never never use the throttle cable adjuster to raise the revs. Use the idle adjustment screw to do that.
