 |
|
I bought a new 2006 model Z750S 11 months ago, after passing my DAS test. I've been happy with it.
As it was approaching 12 months, I thought I had better ring the dealer to book a 12 month service, despite not having quite reached the 4000 mile service interval. The instruction book does (to me) suggest that a few things, like oil change, are carried out yearly despite mileage. The service manager was with a customer when I rang to book in, but I was called back shortly afterwards (so I wasn't just dealt with by a receptionist). When I tried to book the 12 month service I was told that it was unecessary - Kawasaki only operate a mileage-based service, not time-based, for my bike and I only needed to book in when I had done the mileage.
I don't want to have a problem with my bike another 6 months down the line and find that my warranty is buggered. Can anyone else with a newish Kawasaki, or someone from a dealer, confirm this? ____________________ Current bike: Kawasaki Z750S |

I payed around £140 for the 4000 miles service on my Z1000, so if you're being charged £40 that sounds more like an oil change + labour. |
The second Kwak dealer told me they just need to strip and refit the brakes. Looking at the periodic mainenance chart, brakes (fluid, hoses, pads, operation, light switch) are the only thing that is checked at every service - but not necessarily by a Kawasaki dealer. The rest of the stuff need only be done every second, third or even fourth service (i.e. at 8k, 12k or 16k intervals). There are, however, plenty of things that are also stated as should be done yearly by a dealer (like "K Fuel leak inspect" on the page included in my last post). ____________________ Current bike: Kawasaki Z750S |

Well, I asked them to be specific:
| dmahon wrote: | Thank you very much for your prompt reply.
The service manual contains the Periodic Maintenance Chart you
mentioned, however the first column also contains a time period
for some checks - it says that certain things (check tyre
pressure, oil change, fuel pipe inspect, etc.) should be done
every 6 months, year or two years. I thought this may be
regardless of mileage A very small number of these things seem
to stipulate that they must be performed by a Kawasaki dealer,
as noted by the black "K" next to them.
Obviously, I am worried about my two year warranty becoming
void if I fail to follow Kawasaki's maintenance advice and that
is why I sent my original email query to you when the dealer
told me it was unnecessary to have a service at 12 months and I
should just wait until 4000 miles. Your email has not made me
any wiser as you quote the mileage but ignore the time period
mentioned in the chart you reference!
Once more, I would be grateful if:
1) you could confirm that I do not need to have a service until
4000 miles - even if that may mean that it is 18 months or so
since the previous (600 mile) service. If the dealer was wrong,
and I do need a service at 12 months, please let me know as
soon as possible so that I can arrange one.
2) Please also give me details regarding Kawasaki's K-Care
WarrantyPlus and information regarding how I can purchase it. |
and they have!
| kawasaki customer services wrote: | Dear Mr Mahon,
Please accept my apologies for the time it has taken to respond to your e-mail dated 23rd October 2006.
We are able to confirm that you do not need to have your machine serviced until it has reached the relevant service schedule which is specified in milage only. Therefore the next service schedule after 600miles would be at 4000miles.
Please be aware that items such as engine oil should however be replaced every year. Full details can be found within your owners manual
With regards to warranty plus. If you can supply us with a forwarding address I will be happy to send you a leaflet on the extended warranty which is available through your local Kawasaki dealer.
I hope this information will be of some assistance to you. |

Why not just go out for a few rides get it upto 4000 miles and then get it serviced.....
Problem sorted..
Seems you are having a lot of trouble getting a straight answer. If you are that worried and do not want to put too many miles on, just tell the dealer to do the 4000 service whether or not they say it needs it.... As a customer you have the right to say if you want it doing...
Also with the sort of mileage you are doing is the extra warranty worth the money ??
I know what you ride is upto you, but perhaps you might be better off rethinking what type of bike you need for the sort of mileage you are doing. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |
