Thanks to advice from you guys, and ebay, I have bought my first bike. Slightly overboard when I was initially looking at 250, maybe 400cc, but now I wouldn't swap my FZ6 for anything.

I took it out for a good ride round my town last night, and being practically the first bike I touched after my CBT nearly a year ago, it's completely terrifying/very exciting.

After killing the battery the day I got it on sunday, I found bumpstarting it was totally easy, just 10mph or so down a slope with the ignition on in our carpark, drop it into 2nd, and you're away. So much for the controversies surrounding that that I read about across the web..

So yes I've very chuffed, I'm just trying to remember how inexperienced I am, and how much I'd hate to die at the moment, I'm barely getting it into 3rd gear before having to change my underpants.

If anyone knows anyone selling top boxes, I'd love to hear, I am looking for a second hand one (since the bike has made me skint!)

I hope thats a typo. . . . and you meant DAS. You do know you can't ride a 600 on a CBT yeah. . ? Am I missing something here?

Are you not taking a big chance mate, your likely to get pulled before the DAS and get banned, if I was you mate I would do it properly put the bike away and wait until you pass mate.

my 2p's worth

You take lessons like everyone else.

Not being funny but you took your CBT over a year ago, not ridden since, then jump on a FZ6.

Its an accident waiting to happen.

How did you get insurance? I had to provide details of when I passed on my application a few months ago....

An '04 Fazer was my first bike, I picked it up the day I passed my DAS and loved every second of owning it.

I was about to congratulate you, but then I noticed the rest of your post.

Put the bike back in the bloody garage, and take your sodding DAS before you even sit on it again.

You aren't insured and don't have a license. Why should the rest of us suckers pay extra so that you can freeload and put us at risk.

Don't be a tit and jump the gun.

yea i assumed that was a typo when you put it.

I have never gone on a bike that i wasnt old enough/had license for so if you crashed and killed someone i dont think you could forgive yourself

I hope you dont do it again Thumbs Down

You sir, are a complete idiot! How have you managed to get through life so far without killing yourself?

I'm just astounded that anyone who can dress themselves could possibly say the above words and think thats ok!

What happens if you hit someone? How would you feel if an unlisenced driver hit you? Get off the road numpty.

I feel pretty guilty now. I completely respect you guys and what you have to say.. I would much, much rather pay for extra lessons, but I spent ages phoning around trying to get a DAS for £400 for my limited experience because I actualyl can't afford any more. That's pretty much down to my greed, locking my money up in that bike, so I recognise that was foolish. I have been on a couple of smaller bikes, and I've cycled for years and am learning the car.. I'm also extremely weary (as I should be) I think it's a bit different in this little town in Devon, where my biggest danger is probably cow pats rather than other fast vehicles.. I'm booked for sunday, and the practice I've had the last couple of days has been totally invaluable.. I don't want a reputation as a tit, I'm trying not to be aliability and obviously I'll never do it again after my test..

It doesn't matter how many smaller bikes/cycles/car lessons you've tried, you've still been riding with no licence, therefore no valid insurance, apparently no lessons, and precious little experience looking at your description.

You also say that you would "much, much rather pay for extra lessons"... Extra to what?? you've already admitted that you only have a year old CBT, and no mention of previous lessons Rolling Eyes

It also doesn't matter that you may live in a sleepy area of Devon, you're still not beyond the law, or immune to the effects of Darwinism. Lock that bike up right now and give the keys to someone with some common sense.

The only positive side to this thread that I can see so far is that you're far enough away that I'm never likely to be on the same road as you.

Apologies if this reply reads like a flame (I'm usually such an easy-going person)... basically if you want to put yourself at risk, that's your choice, but I have no patience for anyone who apparently disregards the safety of EVERYBODY else on the road!

Man.. you're talking about me as such a safety liability to other on the road, yet I can't help but feel I'd rather encounter like me (extremely careful and concerntrating) than a lot of the boy racer twats that have made it onto the roads you know?

Even the guy I spoke to at my motorcycle training said that a lot of the people taking the course have been doing basically what I am, looking to become legal on big bikes, after getting some experience. You can learn in a car with your parents, but you can't learn with another bike driver friend..

Perhaps, but I can't help but feel I'd rather encounter you after you've actually passed your test.

I'd rather encounter a wimpy axe murderer than a massive one, but that doesn't mean it's ok to be either, kapisch?

A lot of people go out mugging, raping, watch Big Brother and say 'Brer'. That makes precisely none of those things acceptable.

Indeed not. That is what the DAS is for.

Be patient.

is this a joke?
your profile says you're 21.
if you can afford an 04 fz6 (cheapest i could find was high miles at£2400) but you cant afford lessons or insurance .
you really are from the shallow end.
21 and not taken/passed any kind of driving test.
how do you get about?
how do you get to work?
how do you afford a couple of £1000 for a bike?
you sound like a newspaper headline.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA yeah man go with that school, they sound awesome!

I'd rather encounter a boy racer with insurance than you wobbling around like a pleb. If your so awesome just take the test! Do you have your theory done? I think you mention you don't have car licence, do you even know what the road signs mean? I mean like seriously mate put it away or I'm gonna call the filth myself! hahahahaha Karma

oh my god!
i am taking my DAS, it's in 2 days. Only reason I have the bike first is cause it was an amazing deal that was about to go. 'wristjob' I got round on bicycle, and buses.

I will go for a ride up dartmoor tomorrow, cause there's no one there at all, it's barron and small nice roads visible for miles. It's hardly ideal, but calling me a tool is praps a bit strong, christ. I bet all of you have broken the law before, and like I said I honeslty don't believe I'm more of a safety danger to others than a good deal of bikers.. if I caused damage it'd be my financial problem the way I see it, I just don't want to endanger anyone else

You're an idiot.

I hope you hit somebody's Ferrari and are left with the repair bill.

Ask anyone who has been hit by an uninsured motorist about how fun it is.

I had a brand new 600RR weeks before my DAS and I managed to resist riding it.

I think that given that he's riding without a license, insurance is most unlikely.

Gotta be a frigging piss take.

Dartmoor is not a barron place. Take it from me it is June and the roads are packed to the brim, mostly with caravans.

Go up Dartmoor if you like, but I wouldn't want to do it if I had no experience, some real challenging roads up there and not much room for error.

Sorry, what am I saying, don't go out on it at all. I live less than 10 miles from the Devon border and I wouldn't want to come into contact with you. Complete and utter tosspot. Rolling Eyes

Absolutly, but maybe he will realise that! hahahaaha. I never realised there were such stupid people in the world, you'd think natural selection would sort it out.

Guess it's up to the Buckfastleigh Police to catch the little runt! hahahaha
