Hi im 27 and have just passed my DAS and im looking for a bike. Iv had my mind set on a GSXR600 for months now, but loads of people keep telling me not to get one for my first bike cos i wouldnt be able to handle it. My question is as i want that bike do i get a restrictor fitted on it so i can learn on the bike or do i go for something a little less powerful but that still has the looks. Iv been looking everywhere but the only other bike that i have come across is the cbr600f, which iv heard is a good beginner bike. I dont want a 400 as they all look weedy. Iv looked at GPz500, GSR600 and the bandit 600 but i really dont like them. Any views would be appreciated

I would say go with what you want, just take care and learn to control the bike and not the other way around.

Go and sit on a few and see what you feel most comfortable on.

Safe riding Very Happy

CBR600F would be a perfect first bike if you take it easy

There's also:

YZF600R Thundercat (Watch out for second gear failing)
ZZ-R600 (The same)
GPZ500S (Fast 500)
GSX600F (Love em or hate em)

I'd say they're a bit more forgiving than full on sports, it's not just the speed you have to worry about but the brakes on a full on sportsbike would probably catch you out more than anything.

Get some fairing protectors new folks and even more experienced folks drop bikes , and it takes time to learn how to save a particular bike once you pass 40 degrees from verticle (many people who think thisis the point of no return), like the NTV just needs gas and opposite lock and it stands up fine,

Restricting a GSXR600?

What for? You wont be able to learn on anything bigger than a 125 when you take your CBT till you pass your DAS. You can however get practise on a bigger bike (usually a 500 as far as I know) when your undertaking bike training form a bike school but not when you're out on your own.

And There's no need to restrict the bike really. At the end of the day the bike will only go as fast as you want it to go.

If it was A2 then yes restrict. (My hornet is restricted)

He's doing DAS so no need to restrict it.

Just got a quote for a '92 CBR600 which i'm thinking of buying. £380TPFT with Carole Nash.
