Hi all, having just got my lovely Firestorm,

Is there a way of telling if the bike is an Import, its not a problem if it is, just would like to know, can you tell on the Log Book for example, does it say New at First Registration by Honda etc or independent dealer ?

Thanks in advance

Mark

EDIT, update, got the logbook back today Friday, it says on the bottom, Declared New in GB by Independent Importer, so I guess that means its an import ? am I correct.

Now the question is how do I tell if the speedo has been corrected for miles etc, any ideas ?

Mark

Check the VIN plate (on the frame near the head-stock usually). If it's an import it should be in a foreign language.

Hi mate, the Vin plate says

HONDA MOTOR CO LTD then the number etc, underneath the number is says HOMOLOGACION TIPO

A plate on the other side, left side as your sat on the bike has :

MESURE DE BRUT A LARRET
then some more foreign text basically saying about the decebels at 4500 rpm 90db etc.

I guess this means its an import so what the guy said is a lie but also 40k miles is now 40k kilometers, around 25k miles, so not too bad for the price I got it at.

not really as he could of fitted a converter onto it, there should be more stickers on your bike if they are all foreign then yes it could be an import just check your log book it will say if it was used in another country

That's a Spanish or Portugese (most likely Portugese) import.

Underneath the fuel tank where the frame meets the headstock is a sticker with an "E" on it and then a number?

EDIT: I don't mean UNDER the fuel tank, I mean the frame that runs underneath it on the right hand side of the bike.

Also if there is an E on it, its an Import ?

Will have a look in the morning.

Theres an E and a number afterwards, I'm not sure if this is the same on all bikes but I remember someone saying that that's a way to check on Suzukis

I'm not sure which numbers denote which country, but if you're still stuck tomorrow I'll go and look at mine Smile or my mates Sp-1

it dosen't have to be registered in another country to be an import, they are uk spec imported to this country then registered.

if that's the question you are asking

Hi all, right, not sure how I missed this label last night, however above the VIN Plate there is a while label with some numbers on, the first one is in a circle and says E13.

Does this mean its a UK or a Parallel import, also is there any way of telling if there is a mile/kmh adjuster on the bike, the clock dial is UK.

Thanks

Mark

E13 means that it's a European approved vehicle - officially imported 'bikes will have that too.

But anyway, I assume by imported you mean a 'bike that's been brought in other than by the official importer (Honda UK)?

You could take it to a Honda dealer and ask them - they'll be able to check the VIN against Honda UK's records.

The manufacturer plates don't necessarily mean it's an unofficial import as it's not unknown for 'bikes to be re-routed from one country to another if there's an unexpected demand. To use a car example, Volkswagen have been known to bring in South Africa spec. cars because there weren't enough UK spec. ones available.

On your V5C it will normally have something like "Declared new at first registration" - or at least that's what it says on my KTM's V5C.

Hi mate, yes by Import I mean other than Honda UK, I am not that concerned by it, just would like to know, as if when I come to sell I don't want to look a liar by telling the prospected buyer its a UK bike when its not or saying its done 40k when it has not, etc.
