A friend of mine just went to a bike shop to have a look around, he saw a Maroon 05 R1 and told the dealer that his mate (me) has just brought one in silver with a black mid fairing

dealer asked him where i'd got it and my mate said It was from D&K motorcycles, dealer then told him that's an Import and will be missing 30 bhp!!!!

now, is that right? how do I know if my bike is an import? and how do I know if it's restricted without whacking it on a dyno?

cheers

PS this is the bike

There should be a VIN plate on the frame near the headstock. If the bike's an import the text will be in a foreign language (repeating myself from another, very recent, thread. Weird).

Do a bit of checking on Google or the BCF search to see how much people love DK and their import bikes. Wink

Have a look on your V5 to see if it's imported.

How to check if it's restricted without whacking it on a dyno, well, this involves going onto one of the private motorway sections and doing some speed testing.

Would put money on it being an import.

Yeh I know about DandK but is it true about American imports missing 30bhp?

i've only had 165 out of the R1 so far, i'll not be doing faster until my Ohlins damper arrives

It should have amerikan spelling. Wink

I think you can also find out online which country it's from by inputting the chassis number somewhere.

Your never going to be able to use all the power that it has in the real world, no matter what you might say.
But you should have been told that it wasnt a full power, they should have informed you it wasnt the same bhp as uk models, trades discription act etc.

Well maybe not if your bike isn't in fact full power.

It's almost certain that it's an import but i haven't read anywhere that they were restricted for a particular market. Perhaps you could ask the dealer to show you where he got his info, or even run the vin number for you.

At least France has a 100bhp restriction on bikes.

I know that Germany has a 100 BHP limit too. DK tend to import their bikes from Europe and the reference to Dan's made me smile too as they import from the good old USA. I actually phoned them and spoke to their "Blade specialist" a few weeks ago, funnily enough about a Blade. They were selling off used US bikes for slightly less than used UK bikes, for the price difference and resale value I decided to buy a used UK.

I'm fairly sure that yours is an import from looking at the colour scheme. I thought the UK bike was silver where yours is the dark buley/graphite colour, sort of like a negative of yours.

Like this one;

Sounds a fair bit of shite really, it would be missing more than 30bhp if it was restricted to 100bhp. The only thing I'm aware of relating to restrictions is California bikes have more stringent emission regulations, so they are restricted in more ways than non-Cali bikes. Only heard that off an American forum though, might be worth looking on R1-forum.com or something?

If you buy a 2nd hand bike from DK it is like any other dealer and you have to make sure that you know the origin of that bike if it being an import concerns you.

As for buying a new bike from DK, then they are all almost certainly imports of some description as DK aren't a franchised dealer for anyone as far as I am aware. Therefore their new stock is mostly sourced from outside the UK.
