Hi. You may remember me from such topics as 'hi i havent finished my DAS yet and im already riding round illegally'
I have dreamed of having my own bike for the last 5 years, finally invested in £3,000 of mint FZ6 '04 and that was one week ago. Today my mate (who's younger than me, has ridden a couple of years) took me riding round dartmoor, he was on his CBR125.. I tried so hard not to be arrogant, on my beautiful new machine, but as he whipped round corners and shot away I completely played along, I never tried to compete, I just had a really nice ride following him, but one right turn came, totally visible, I just realised that I wasn't turnig sharply enough. I've been replaying it again and again since it happened an hour ago.. I think I just thought my bike was a lightweight 125 that I could cane round tight bends like that.. but it's much heavier and I hadn't commited to it nearly enough, or maybe I just shouldn't have been going that fast, or generally pretending i'm experienced. I accepted, at 50mph, that I wasn't going to make this corner anymore, and a wave of solemness chilled me and I tried to straighten up and ease to a stop on the grassy bank, but it was so bumpy and slopey I had no chance. and it just happened like that, it went down on it's right side, and I bodysurfed over the goarse bushes at 50. I don't remember it really but according to the rips on my jacket I seem to have gone on my back a lot.
I took all my gear, and don't have the slightest ache scratch or bruise. But I'm not even sure what my emotional state is right now.
This is a truely sad story about a boy who thought he could be the one in a million who does something stupid like get a huge bike with no experience, and THEN ride it as if he did have experience, and get away with it. But he didn't get away with it. Seven days, and my pride and joy I've saved up so long for is now quite a mess. I silently rode slowly home with sam leading, taking back roads to avoid police, and parked her back in my alley and took these pics for you.
If you have any tips on checking that everything is mechanically okay with it, please say. It feels mechanically fine, just cosmetically obliterated. Mainly the whole dash/cowl is skew.
I'm so gutted. and i completely, totally and utterly deserve it. I need to stop thinking i'm a fucking pro
The thing that brings me nearest to tears is that yesterday, all of you were saying just put it back in the shed and leave it a bit, certainly til you've done your DAS

It's fixable.
And you've learnt your lesson.
Fair play for posting rather than hiding. |

To be fair, it only look cosmetic so hardly a write off. Still devastating but i think a garage should be about to sort it out and be back on the road (WHEN YOU HAVE DONE YOUR DAS THIS TIME)
Put it down as experience. I think that you shouldn't of done it but at least you were man enough to post up your mistake and i think that's a good thing
And like colin said, your not hurt and on one else was ____________________ 99 RS125 --> 02 SV650s --> 03 Speed Four --> 92 RXS100 --> 93 CB400sf --> 01 CB600f Hornet |

Personally i would probably use my overdraft and get a garage to get it to the state it was before (though this is a more expensive way of doing it)
Like bendy says, if you do it all yourself you'll be much more mechanically minded with bikes by the end which is always good  ____________________ 99 RS125 --> 02 SV650s --> 03 Speed Four --> 92 RXS100 --> 93 CB400sf --> 01 CB600f Hornet |

DAS is there for a reason - to give you the basics you need to go out on the road on your own and learn.
Spend your money on the bike test, then worry about the bike afterwards.
Well done for wearing gear at least, you can't buy new skin & bones. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
