Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Had just completed a damp and miserable lap of the TT course and headed into Doulglas to Tommy Leonards Honda dealership and as I'm trying to park my bike up outside the shop some pissed up twat in a Renault Scenic decides to just smash me out of the way and clear off up the street. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

The lad I was with gave chase on foot Shocked as we knew it was a dead end, once the drunk decided to come back down the road he tried to run over some other people who had witnessed it and stood in the road to stop him getting away.

Once he'd stopped we pulled the keys out and hid them which pissed him of a little, it was highly amusing watching a pissed up late 50's 8 stone 5'2" scrawny piece of shit threatening 6 foot bikers unless they handed his keys over. Laughing

I'm ok and the bikes not too bad considering, although it is likely to be a write off as I'd hate to think how much genuine exhausts and fairings will cost for the NSR.

The drunk was in court yesterday and if he pleads not guilty to drink driving, dangerous driving and some public order offences I'll have to go back to the Isle of Man for the court case. Mr. Green

That poor poor beautiful bike. Sad

I guess you'll be looking at at least claiming the cost of repair for the parts, if not the entire value of the bike?

The Police on the Island don't mess around - the penalties are quite severe (but effective).

Was he a local or an incomer? Not that it'll make much difference as I think the Isle of Man and the UK now share records so that if he's banned over there he'll also be banned in the UK.

Hope you get everything sorted out, but insurance claims always take a while to work through the process....

This must be a recent thing as a few years back many used to go over there and D&D knowing that a ban wouldn't be valid over here.

Rang insurance last Thursday, they where supposed to be ringing me back. Going to chase them tommorow.

Depending on what happens with the insurance I have 3 ideas.

1. fix it. (only really needs 1 rearset and front brake leaver)

2. Track it.

3. Number 1 plus buy an RC30 or OW01. Cool

hit a slight stumbling block.

I've lost the card the policeman gave me with the crime ref on it, so to get any further details I need to speak to him.

this has cocked things up royal at the moment as I cant seem to get hold of him and my insurers have drawn a blank on the reg no I gave them (which I know is 100% correct as I've a photo of the car) so they say theres nothing they will do.
So it's up to me to get in touch with the police to get further details.

What do we pay these people for. Rolling Eyes

The cost of a Police report is usually £60.

Your insurers in 99.9% of cases will write to the Accident Records department of the Police force involved, pay the fee (called a disbursment) and they will be sent a copy once the investigation and any subsequent prosecution is completed.

However, they (the Police) will provide vehicle registration numbers and driver details to anyone with reasonable grounds to require those details along with a reference number for when the application is made, however they are used to dealing with law firms and insurers with formal applications rather than members of the public involved, although this does not preclude you from asking for the information.

If you are insured fully comp, it is the job of your insurers to apply, not for them to pass the buck and get you to do it.

The £60 fee is reclaimed at the completion of the case.

I'm not comp so it's in the hands of no win no fee type outfits who from past experience tend to be lazy.

As you mention T.C. the police will release this information but without the ref no. they wont tell me anything unless I can speak to the officer in charge of the case which is proving a little difficult. this weekend I found a piece of paper the policeman who took my statement gave me so I may try to get hold of him too.

If the Police will not release the information without a reference number, then there is something seriously wrong with their database.

I phone for details on a regular basis, and all you have to provide to get a reference number is one of the registration numbers or a name of a person involved (namely yourself) and the database will cross reference and bring up the information automatically at which point they can also provide you with the current status as far as any action or subsequent investigation is going.

If you are on a no win no fee, then you are obviously being dealt with by a law firm, and if they are not prepared to deal with the mundane enquiries themselves, then you have grounds to make a complaint to the law society who regulate all law firms and solicitors, if by no win no fee you mean your insurers, then you have a valid complaint to the insurance ombudsman.

It is their job to obtain the details, because they also know that the payment to the Police will be included within their disbursments, and they will also know that once they have the basic information, it will take anything up to 6 months to receive the report.

I would suggest that you get back onto whoever told you to chase up, tell them that you are not happy with having to do their work for them, and that unless they start doin the job that they are being paid very well to do, a complaint to the relevant ombudsman will be forthcoming.

Small world aint it!? I'm the chap with the K7 gixxer thou' you were trying to park next to when you got hit, very glad you fell the other way! Mr. Green

Glad to hear you're okay, but a bit of a shitter you've lost the crime no. Sad

That was the first full day on the island for us and seeing you get knocked off started the week about as bad as we thought it could get......four out of the five of us who went together dropped our bikes at some point, so you'd helped our week start as it meant to go on!! Crying or Very sad

I know it's not much help when you've got to get info. off them now, but I thought the police were very good on the day, if a bit slow taking everyones' statements!

Sounds like a manx plate - I'm fairly sure that even though theres a reciproval agreement for licences, the uk doesnt have access to the manx number plate database. I know that when I lived there and then visited the UK I used to park anywhere and throw the parking tickets in the bin as they couldnt be traced Laughing

Does the plate have MAN or MN in it? That always used to be the case.
