 |
|
Hello, just going to introduce myself here, and hope I can make some good friends, meet some people and generally have a nice time biking!
I'm 20, and live just north of London. I passed my geared CBT last weekend (second attempt) having never ridden a bike before. Managed to buy myself a nice cheap - but good condition 2001 Yamaha SR125 to learn on...not my first choice of bike, but decided to go with the "spend less, don't look so-cool - but have money for full test, and an easier bike to learn on"
Have been riding her around for the weekend, and am really enjoying it, having all the usual little scares (mainly on nasty left bends and mini roundabouts)
I shall be doing my full test in 6 months - as then i will be 21, I thought it would be best to practice on a cheap bike for a few months, and then do direct acess, rather than restricted and waiting two years!
I would like to meet any groups or friends in the local (ish) area - which is just north of London, in Hertfordshire....I would like to travel further...but not being able to go on the motorway makes it a bit awkward!
So yea...sorry for the long post...hope i can get on with everyone on here.
Cheers! |

Hi there. I'm not at all near your area but I know there's quite a few people here that are local to you.
I've also had my fair share of scares too
As for motorways, thank goodness you can't go on them yet or I'm sure you might end up killing yourself. Not to say you can't handle them, but I heard there's a load of tossers who will rip you to shreds if you're not experienced in motorway riding/driving.
This is all based on that you haven't done so in a car though already.
Good luck and welcome! ____________________ CBT: Passed - (3/4/07)

You do realise you can take the A2 test now so you can be go on the motorways and rip the L plate off and when you do turn 21 you can take an accelerated access test and then you can be on a full power bike. No need to wait the 2 years.
It would end up costing more but if you are thinking of buying a bigger full power bike when you pass the DAS I think it would make more sense to pass A2 now and get the bike, with the restrictors and when you feel comfortable with the bike and your capabilities takes the accelerated access when you turn 21. Not only will you be used to the bike handling and the stopping power but you wont be as surprised when you go straight from the 125 to a full power bigger bike.
Up to you though of course and whatever route you take good luck ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

You can get around most of that area without motorways.
Give shleppy a shout - he's been going on about going on a ride-out with his 100 for ages and is in your kinda area I think .

There are a few members in Potters Bar, and I'm only down the road near St Albans.
Plus my engine is almost up and running now! Dam flat battery just when you dont want it!
