Following on from my witnessing a large artic locking its wheels on a somewhat steep descent to a roundabout in the wet yesterday and nearly being wiped out by the bloody thing (ended up on the verge and got drenched as it skidded through a lake of a puddle as compensation), I thought I'd start a thread.

What's the scariest incident you've ever witnessed or been victim/perpetrator of on the roads? Thinking

Saw a car bounce off the central reservation then clip another car and flip over about 5 times on the M6 once. It ended up on its wheels on the hard shoulder - the roof was caved in. I stopped and ran to the car and amazingly everyone inside was OK - a bit shaken though!

Heading to work doing 30 in a 30, as I get right by a turning to my left a car tried to go into it from my right. He noticed me at the last second and braked but he was taking up 3/4 of my lane and I was heading for the front corner of his bumper! I braked and the front locked and the bike started to fall, my mind kind've went 'omg the fronts locked' so I let go of the brake, somehow that happening caused me to kind of slide over my lane and past the bumper!

Even running wide and up a kerb wasn't as scary as that moment when I thought I was about to hit a car, then thought I was going down because the front was locked then realised I was safe again.

Waiting to turn right at a junction some years ago (in a Peugeot 505 estate car) when some muppet rear ended us, apparently doing 40+ on a 30mph road.

Well the car was written off, looking more like a hatchback than an estate when we got out... and the fire service had to crowbar the rear wings off the back tyres just to move the car off the road

Oh, I was also behind an old woman in a Fiesta on the M25 once. She went to pull into the middle lane, realised there was a car already there and steered back sharply to avoid it, only a little too sharply and ended up driving up the grass embankment and flipping the car over.

I was first to stop and get to the car, but had trouble opening the door until a few other people stopped.

She was fine in the end I think.

Worst I've seen was an old man step out in front of a car doing 30, literally about a meter in front of it. He was thrown up onto the bonnet of the car as it screeched to a halt.

He was fine just a bit shaken up, the car was ok as well apart from some scratches on the bonnet surprisingly.

Really its not that bad an incident, but I was only 13 so it got to me a little. Only other crash I've seen apart from that would be some guy pulling out of a local dealer on a ducati (748 I think), the engine cut out as he turned and the bike fell over under him, I helped him up, there was no damage at all to the bike that I could see.

A while ago me and my brother were on our way back from Nottingham after a night out, so this would of been around 2am or so. We were on the A50, at the point we were it is dual carriageway with slip road exits rather than roundabouts or normal junctions, like a 2 lane motorway. We'd just overtaken a truck and pulled back into lane 1 when a car went past in lane 2 - heading the other way. It took us a few seconds to realise what had just happed - we were seconds away from a 140mph head on collision! Shocked

had to be last wednesday when i filtering and saw a car stopped on my side of the road, it took me about half a second to realise this was because he was letting some pedestrians cross, i had to brake hard, i think i managed a stoppie (although this is unconfirmed) and when i was about 10 m away one of the pedestrians screamed as she turned round and saw me, luckily for them i managed to stop about a metre away. the worst bit was seeing the look on her face, pure terror, and the fact she just stood there, motionless while i was heading towards her. needless to say i will be a lot more careful when im filtering from now on

When my dad's austin montego caught fire with 3 of us in it, saw smoke initially, opened door and looked underneath(was about 8) and saw oil that was in fire dripping from underneath the car, told him and we sat onthe pavement at roadside and watched cremate it-self until emergency services got there, never did find out why
. Confused

Going sideways on the M4 in heavy snow on a bend on a hill late at night. (Not intentionally going sideways I may add). - Snapped it back though and kept going as nothing had happened.
