New to biking so would appreciate help with a problem I have. Put new battery on my bike after buying it and although it has stood for 3 weeks without running, would have expected it to start- but no. Jump started and ran for 5 miles, pulled into get petrol and....nothing. Do not have problems once engine is going but this is really getting to me. HELP! Confused

Yeah, charged by Honda when I picked it up couple of months ago. Worked fine (starting a couple of times a week) until this weekend. Suspect regulator/rectifier but should I be looking for anything else?

mmmm no, the reg/rec wouldnt of given out enough charge just starting it up. Charge the batt to 12.4 V or higher, then carry out a load test either at the charger or whilst on the bike, as i suspect the battery could be at fault.

Okay, ta. Is it normal for bike batteries to run down so quickly?

Batteries come dry charged, fill with acid leave to settle for an hour and you're away. The latest maintenance free sealed batteries I've been knocking out have a shelf life of around 9 months before they start to discharge before use.

It takes about 20-30 mins of riding to recharge a battery to the level it was at before starting, NC24's are notorious for poor starting and fouling their plugs if not used. You may have just discharged the battery if you were only starting the bike and not actually riding it.

If you have been riding the bike my first suspect would be the reg/rec if it hasn't been changed for a finned one. Try a jump start and check the voltage at the battery at around 4000rpm, if that doesn't work I would be checking the plugs.
