Hey fella
I've got a Honda Varadero 125 and it's a definite winner for big bike look and feel. I bought it because I wanted a decent-sized bike that was comfortable, good round town and more visible than the standard titchy 125. Honestly, if you took the L plates off few people would guess it's a 125.
The downside of it is that it's a heavy bike and it's not as fast as the sportier 125's because of the weight. Plus it's faired so dear to fix if you drop it. I wouldn't call it a particularly sporty 125 so that might put you off.
Does your £3000 include gear? That'll set you back a few hundred quid. Whatever, you can get a really decent Vara for a couple of grand, there are plenty about.
More info here..

4 strokes and 2 strokes are very different. A 4 stroke will generally be slower than an equivalent cc 2stroke.
A 2 stroke will use more fuel and it will burn oil so regular top ups are needed, a 4 stroke is generally more fuel efficient.
It just depends what you want a fast 125 or a slightly more reliable 125. But saying that, a 125 2 stroke will last for ever if you look after it. ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.

The Hyosung gt 125 is suppose to be excellant. It looks bigger than a 125 so thats a bonus but am weary on getting parts.
If your spemding money on a new 125 its harder to sell when you pass your test as most learners usually start with a cheaper bike. Took 7 months to sell a brande new aprillia the other half had and we had to drop the price.
So if you have that large budget for a 125 get your test and get a bigger bike.
Also Veradero's are excellant. ____________________ All the breast.

Hey,
I have around the same budget as Jnr (around 4,000 EURO). Now, personally I would love to get a sporty 125cc. I have rode a bike (dont worry I'm getting lessons ) and I dont know alot about them.
But the Lifan Samurai 125 has caught my eye. Now like I say I dont know alot abou bikes. Can anyone give me advice on wether it's a decent bike, decent to start off with etc. etc.

Don't buy anything Chinese. End of.
I bought a Chinese 125 as my first bike (125) and my god it was a piece of shit. Don't bother with it. For the same amount of money you can buy a CBR125 which will be older but will last so much longer and won't break down on you everywhere.
Stay away from Chinese bikes, they're seriously not worth it. ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

Hi
£3k is not a tight budget. Very generous one.
However although the RS125 and its 2 stroke stablemates from other makes are fast and good handling bikes, they also tend to be thrashed to death and owned by people who are learing (including learning the effects on their wallets of thrashing a bike).
Restricted the performance will be about the same. Deresticted the 2 strokes are far quicker (and with the 4 strokes they are not capable of making enough power in road legal standard form to need restricting).
If you are just going to keep it for a couple of months to pass your test then go for a cheap 125 4 stroke. Spend £500~£1000 on it and you should get almost all your money back when it comes to selling it. Buy a newish bike (RS / Mito / CBR125 / etc) and it will loose a load of money, and you are not really going to have it long enough to be worthwhile.
If you are buying something to keep a year or 2 then the depreciation is less of an issue, and the performance of the 2 strokes when derestricted makes them worthwhile.
All the best

The NSR looks amazing! Insurance seems over the top for a 125 though How much did you pay on the bike and insurance? |

I have an NS, which is before UK NSR's and for a sports, they honestly don't come much better, and it's a 2 stroke so nippier than CBR which is a 4t, insurance was £215 TPO but aslong as the bikes in ok nick and cheapish you shouyld be fine, Ebay has always got a few NSR's. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies.
