Damnit, first proper off

Turned right onto the main road, gave it quite a bit of throttle so as to get clearance between me and the vehicles behind...
Presumably because it was wet, the rear end started sliding and leaning all over the place, really violently, then the left footpeg dug into the ground and the bike spat me off. Amazingly I'm completely uninjured, but the bike's in a bit of a bad state (hire bike aswell, can't decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing). The left handlebar had been bent almost completely downards, although with the help of a guy who stopped to help me pick it up we managed to twist it back almost to normal. Other than that, a lot of scuffs and cosmetic damage - fortunately it had engine bars, they've taken a lot of the impact.
Not sure if anything else is wrong with it yet, I'm going to go and see what I can sort out so I can ride it to work tomorrow then hopefully take it to the hire people at lunch.

I guess that was my overconfidence crash?

Yea, may i ask what bike?? Was it fully comp??

Hope you get it sorted and at least it wasn't your baby, i think its still annoying but would much rather it was a rental bike in terms of what the bike means to you

Where was your bike at the time?

Without wishing to p!ss you off even more, make sure you have a look at the excess figure on the insurance policy they made you sign for the hire bike - when I had my hire bike from Carole Nash there was something like a 600 quid excess on it.

Hopefully the policy your insurers gave you will be a lot lower than that.

2003 Yamaha FZ6. I was told there is a £100 excess and if I damage the bike that's the maximum I will have to pay - so I guess it must be?
I'm kicking myself now though, wishing I went with the £2.50 a day up to a maximum of £40 no matter whether you damage the bike or not option now. I've only had it since this morning!

Aye...well I've discovered the left rear indicator is hanging off and I can't seem to get it go to back in. It appears to be too big for the hole Confused but I'm going to see what I can do to make it roadworthy.

It's sitting in my driveway, someone reversed into it while it was parked causing several hundred pounds of damage. So I have the hire bike at the expense of his insurance. They're coming tomorrow morning to inspect my bike for damage, so I'm desperate not to have to leave the hire bike at home too with all the damage. I'd look like a right numpty. Laughing

Cheers. I guess it's a good thing I learned to be careful with the throttle in the wet under these circumstances and not when there was lots of traffic or at higher speeds. I still can't remember clearly if I wound it open as I was cornering or after I'd straightened out. I think I must have been straight because the bike was all over the place as I was travelling down the road. What's with the rear end sliding all over the place because I opened the throttle on a straight bit of road? Shocked

Yup, fortunately it's only £100. It's through Hexagon rather than an insurance company themselves.

were u slipping the clutch at the time and then let it out with a lot of throttle as u came out of the junction, because thats a common "slow off " situation, eitherway it happens to the best of us as long as ur ok thats the main thing, bikes can be fixed after all !!

Tyre getting nea rthe wear limit?
Bit of diesel on the road? (likely).
You do get a feel for how grippy the road is with experience, but we can all get caught out sometimes.

I tend not to slip the clutch so much nowadays, but it wasn't really a low speed off as such and I came off as I was travelling down the road and not as I was cornering. I have been reliably informed that what I suffered was a tankslapper. Shocked
Having since watched videos of this happening, I can confirm...although when the front wheel came off the ground I have no idea.
I'm more bothered about the fact that they've replaced the Fazer with a Bandit tbh...it's nowhere near as nice a bike. It's like riding a big, powerful CG125. Mr. Green
Ok...the Bandit is a nice bike, I'd say it's a significantly better urban bike than the Fazer, but it's horrible to ride at any speed and it really just does what it says on the tin and no more. Not very exciting.

I don't think it was a grip issue at all, according to the causes of a tankslapper the front wheel must have come off the ground at some point and set back down at a different angle.
Having said that, I've been much slower and more conservative in my riding today. Not necessarily any safer I would say, but less like a bull in a china shop.
