The Renault 1.9 diesel engine is also used in Volvo (aka Ford) vehicles. Ok, it is breathed on a little but it is the same engine. According to the dealer it's far better than the 2 litre replacement from the Ford/PAS group.
Bear in mind that development cost for new vehicles is damn expensive and there are now tie-ins between lots of car makers. Anyone remember the Ford Galaxy, Fiat Alhambra and whatever Volkswagen called it were the same car/bus with different badges. The Ford Focus floorpan is used by the C-Max, Volvo's S40, V50, C70, C30 and Mazda's 3 & 5. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

PSA holds a collaboration agreement with Fiat known as Sevel (Société Européenne de Véhicules Légers SpA, owned 50% by Fiat, 25% by Automobiles Peugeot and 25% by Automobiles Citroën). As a result of this, two factories have been built assembling three ranges of vehicles.
There is a more recent agreement with Toyota Motor Corporation for the development and manufacturing of a series of city cars in a new factory in the Czech Republic. The resulting company is called TPCA (Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile) and it currently manufactures the Citroën C1, Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo.
There is also a new agreement with PSA and BMW; the new Prince engines designed by this joint venture will replace current PSA's TU engine family.
In 2005, PSA Peugeot Citroën formed an alliance with Mitsubishi Motors. Under the deal, PSA Peugeot Citroën will import the Citroën C-Crosser and Peugeot 4007 for sale in Europe. Those two models are based on the Mitsubishi Outlander, and will be assembled at Mitsubishi's plant in Okazaki, Japan. Engine choices will include PSA Peugeot Citroën's diesel engines and Mitsubishi's petrol engines.
PSA also supplies Ford with a 1.6l Diesel engine used in the Ford Focus and the Volvo S40.
Fiat owns Magneti Marelli which in turn owns:
Carello, Automotive Lighting, Siem, Cofap, Jaeger, Solex, Veglia Borletti, Vitaloni and Weber
GM has a 50% share in Daewoo, and the Suzuki Alto is a rebadged Daewoo Tico
Toyota owns Isuzu and Daihatsu, and Toyota Lexcen was sold in Australia as the Holden Commodore, where Holden is part of the GM group.
Ford used to own Kia but sold it to Hyundai
There have been long standing links between Mitsubishi and Chrysler/Daimler (a GM company) as well as partnerships with Hyundai and Proton (who own Lotus). In the '90s, the Carisma was made alongside the volvo S40/V40 with many components shared.

Hi
Fair few more bits of ownership floating around.
Believe VW has now bought a stake in Proton. While Porsche own a chunk of VW. Seat are owned by VW. Audi are owned by VW, and in turn own Lamborghini.
Fiat group basically own Fiat, Alfa, Lancia, Autobianci, Ferrari and Maserati (with Ferrari not being part of Fiat Auto).
Subaru are partly owned by GM. Saab are owned by GM. GM almost landed up owning Fiat Auto (they got stitched up in an equity swap and found that Fiat had the option to force GM to buy the rest of Fiat Auto, cost them billions to get out of that one).
Volvo almost got bought by Renault before Ford managed to grab them. Now looks likely that Renault will buy Volvo from Ford.
All the best
