Honda CG only runs on half choke

Hi,

I have a honda cg125 and just recently it refuses to tick over with the choke off. It seems to run fine on half choke but as soon as you push the choke in it just dies.

I have a spare carbarettor which I put in and it does exactly the same thing. I'm stumped as to what it could be.

Any help would be appreciated

Hi,

Did you manage to get this sorted?

I have the same problem although i have just completed a top end re-build.

When i get a chance im gonna try ajusting the carb. If this still dosent work i will be taking the carb off and giving it a good clean.

Only other thing i could think of is could your fuel / air filter be blocked??

Hi,

I've cleaned the carb out and tried a spare one I had and its all the same. Still runs ok on half choke but won't run without it. I've checked the airbox and am kinda out of ideas now. Where is the filter located?

Undo right hand side panel, Remove plastic cover (5/6 screws IIRC)

Air filter is clamped in there, foam covered cylinder.

The info below might be obviouse and not relivent, but some people have got the following info wrong in the past without the user manual.

Choke leaver fully up = full choke
Choke leaver half way = half choke
Choke leaver fully down = no choke

Bike will not idle with full choke, since choke is butterfly type (does not increase the idle speed).

Have you checked the idle mixture screw on the carb?

Really? So black leaver fully down is choke off and fully up is full choke?

I always thought it was the other way round?

Yes really.

I would check with other owners, since I have the new model 2004 onwards (front disc brake). But we both have the same butterfly choke and carb.

If this is the problem, do not forget to adjust the idle mixture screw under the carb to the fastest idle, incase its been set with the choke leaver in the wrong place.

The choke / warming up is totally different on the pre 2004 models, I have read about not needing any choke at all in summer etc.. But best to hear it / read it from someone who has that bike.

All I no is if I leave the choke on for to long, I can smell it.
