need advice from an electrician please!

whats the going rate (£ per fitting) for fitting GU10 downlights to a plasterboard ceiling to replace a single pendant fitting. wires are in place just need holes cutting, wires looping to the fittings and installing the lights, got about 20 of them to go in 4 rooms.

just need a ball park figure per fitting to check against some quotes.

depends on if you can get to the floorboards above it but without looking at the job, use a rep firm (nic eic registered ,dont use anyone whos not) your looking at 1 1/2 days work at about £150 a day

as i said theres 20 of them, its a house converted into flats, approx 4 per room. no access from above, everything has to be fished through from below, i dont think its half a days work!

im really after a price per fitting.

Electricians rate will be quite expensive an hour. Try and get someone who knows an Industrial electrican who works on the side to do it because they'll charge less and be a billion times better than a household electrician (but just Part P less).

Depends on what has to be done.

First point is do you have adequate space between the ceiling and floor for cooling? if you are using GU10's at 50w these require something like 30cm+ back space or they tend to burn things.

Are there ceiling joists between the positions where you want the lights to go? If there are part of the ceiling may need to be pulled down.

Are the cables tails long enough to spread the lights around or do longer cables need to be made up?

Not enough information to quote but I would suggest you look at at least 1 days work at around £125-£150 a day.

GU10's are horrible bulbs which have a habit of breaking their fittings when you try to change them.

Don't forget smoke hoods,(for sound insulation and retaining fire rating of ceiling) and part P not needed if its not a kitchen or bathroom. Just a small works certificate.

As for your lights, more work than you think.
