I just paid £180 for an engine rebuild (new mains and rings). i installed the engine my self and go and test ride it. About 3 miles later (no power whatsoever) the damn thing seizez round a corner highsiding with me skidding along the floor. Big gash on me side, but that dont matter, the poor old bike has a bit of a cracked fairing. Bloke on a gixer (new one) helps me up begrudgeingly. I manage to restart the bike but dont risk it home.

anyway, all i wanna know is what could have caused this???? I know the oil pump was fine and i bled it then used premix on it with the pump on full then riding it. RC valve should make exhaust port larger at higher revs, or is it the other way round???
Sorry to pester you keoth, but could you help me on this one???
Thanks
Dyl

Hi

The most likely cause of a seizure just after a rebuild is the oil supply. However, you have been careful there so I suspect that should be OK. I presume you filled the gearbox with oil? I would be suspicious that there was a problem with the engine rebuile, either the mains not being fitted properly (unlikely, as they would probably just develope play and wear out if subject to too much side loading) or the piston is oversize (the Honda pistons are available with about 0.02mm between the smallest and the largest)

The power valve should make the exhaust port effectively higher at high revs

All the best

Keith

Check the ring clerance you could be lucky the rings might be slighy to big causing them to stick when the engine heats up, then when it cools down they run as normal on the tzr the clerance is about .002mm check it out with a fela gauge.
While u have the top off have a good feel round for scores!!
Hope this help! Wink

i'm still waiting for my engine back ofter it droped a curclip making a right mess of the piston and bore! FEKING 2 STOKES

Thanks for the replys. This means that the oil pump nad RC valve were set up corectly. Oil was in the gearbox and filled to the correct level.

Unfortunately this makes it look like wrong sized rings have been put in??? Only the rings were changed and not the piston.

Ive got exams now so i cant be doing with taking cylinder heads off. If it looks like it might be the workmanship of the garage then ill let them sort it out.

WHY DONT THEY MAKE DECENT 125 4'STROKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again
Dyl

there is just something about the cityfly that doesnt appeal

i cant but my finger on it, its about the looks

and also 11.4 HP sounds like a bag o' shite, plus its a grand more expensive than the CG

the Varadero 125 is nice, thats a 4 stroke, but its almost as much as an NSR, and i have no idea what the top speed will be

can't see the veradero being much faster than a cityfly- all that plastic as well.....

I know what you mean though- strange mix, not as cheap as the cg but not as aggressive looking as the XLR.

the cityfly exhaust looks like the exhaust off a monkey bike, apart form that it looks ok for a commuter.

Hi

They used to make the CB125S, which was a single cylinder 4 stroke overhead cam 125. The engine was very closely related to the CG125. Went out of production about 20 years ago. They also make the CB125T, which was a 125 twin. Still dog slow (although the earlier CB125T rather than CB125TDC was claimed to be 15hp or so)

All the best

Keith
